Do I need to apply for a 60 days visa?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm travelling to Thailand in June for 6 weeks but plan to visit a neighbouring country within this time. Do I need to apply for the 60 day visa or can I leave Bangkok to visit another country and come back in to fly home from Bangkok without having to apply for the 60 day visa?

Any help would be great as I'm rather confused about what to do!

Thanks,

Rachel

It depends on

  1. your nationality
  2. the lenght of each of your two stays in Thailand
  3. your mode of travel out of Thailand (air or land transport)

For a 6 weeks uninterrupted stay you would be better to get a tourist visa approx Bt 1,100 because either a border run or an extension of stay would cost you from Bt 1,900 and up, all the inconveniencing. Plus, the airline may not let you board if not visa and no outgoing ticket within 30 days.

On the other hand if you plan already to visit another country you do not need a visa, in case you want to travel there via land check the following, again about boarding.

It would be helpful to know exactly what you plan to do

How long will you stay in Thailand before visiting another country ?

Which other country do you intend visiting and for how long ?

Finally what is your Nationality?

Thanks for your replies!

I do not have a set plan yet but I will be leaving Thailand before the 30 days and visit a neighbouring country (potentially Cambodia or Laos) for approx a week to ultimately fly home from Bangkok. I was planning to take a flight to a neighbouring country- is this the best way to travel?!

I am British if that helps?!?

Thanks again,

Rachel

You can do as you have planned. And you can do it without any thai visa

If Brit you are good to go. Arrive at Thai airport get the 30 day visa exempt stamp. Note it really is only good for 29 days because they count the day you arrive as day one. If you go to Laos or Cambodia or whatever before 29 days are up you are all set. So lets' say 6 weeks total trip or 42 days. Arrive and stay in Thailand 28 days. Travel to Cambodia (get their visa on arrival) and stay for 13 days. Travel back to Thailand and fly home. If you fly from Cambodia back to Thailand you may be able to just transit the airport. Not sure. I have never flown in and then out on the same day. But either way, you would get another Thai Visa on Arrival exemption which is free. Maybe come back to Thailand a day before you are scheduled to fly home so that you are near the airport on your day of departure. I don't like missing international flights or connections. You could also extend your initial 30 day visa on arrival by paying 1900 baht, give or take a service fee that some places charge or by going directly to an immigration office in person. Then you could initially stay in Thailand more than just 30 days on the first part of your trip.

Hi all,

I have a similar situation and would like your confirmation on my specific details. I am a French citizen.

Plane tickets:

Paris - Bangkok on 23rd of April.

Bangkok - Paris on 3rd of June.

So in theory it is a 42 days stay.

But, I intend to leave Thailand by plane around the 18th May to go to Bali, I am not sure yet which city I will leave Thailand from.

I intend to leave Bali to re-enter Thailand in Bangkok the 2nd of June, so I can catch my return flight to Paris the next day.

Do I need to have all those plane reservations (one way tickets) on the day of my first arrival in Bangkok (23rd April)? Will they ask me for a visa on arrival? Do I need to apply for a 60-day visa (I am worried because it is too late for that)? If I leave Thailand to Bali from another city than Bangkok do I need to have proof of transportation reservation from Bangkok to this city? How do they proceed exactly when you arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport?

I know it is a lot of questions, I am really worried and was unable to reach the French Thai Embassy today.

Please let me know if you need more details.

Thank you!

Adam

Without a visa, for both flights to Thailand you will need a confirmed flight out of Thailand only if the airline asks for it when you check in.

Thank you Maestro!

How do you people know this kind of things?

From the experiences posted by thousands of Thaivisa members (whom to thank I am taking this occasion)

Hi again!

I want to thank everyone who has posted on my thread- it has been super helpful!

So, I think I have a plan of my trip- I arrive into Thailand on the 24th June where I'll stay for 28 days then fly to Vietnam for 12 days and then fly back to Thailand for 2 days before I fly home to the UK.

Just to clarify- I do not need an extended visa for Thailand as I'll be leaving before the 29days are up and with my flight booked to Vietnam to show, that will cover me...is this correct?

Do you think I should come back to Thailand for more than 2 days before leaving?

Thanks again!

Rachel

No, you can travel as it better suits you.

Hi again!

So i have another question- when I return back into Thailand, how long will my visa last before I would need an extended one? It is another 30 days or less?

Thanks!

Since you are British you will be allowed a visa exempt entry into Thailand that will give you a permission to stay for 30 days. It doesn't sound like you would need more than 30 days, but if you do you could extend the visa exempt entry for another 30 days by going to an immigration office in Thailand and paying 1,900 Baht for the extension.

Hello rmcclure88!

If you arrive in Thailand on June 24 as a British passport holder, you will get a visa-exempt stamp upon arrival that

allows you to stay in The Kingdom till July 23, by which date you'll have only to leave the country. I'll probably be

able to get another 30 days when you fly back to Thailand and stay there till the 30-day visa-exempt stamp expires.

I've flown into Thailand so many times but have never ever been questioned or been asked to show an onward ticket

by any Immigration Officers upon arrival. I have been questioned at the land borders only twice, once in Chong Mek,

Ubon RatchaThani, and once in Padang Besar, Songkhla, but they let me enter The Kingdom in the end no problem.

Do you know you need a Vietnamese visa? You MUST arrange for one before you enter the country. You can go to

Vietnam Forum for how to get one.

Good luck.
