Songkran is a a lot of fun but with in reason, a bucket full of water in a car is not reasonable and or fun

The fun part comes with fixing the car.....hours of joy.......maybe youl get lucky and be able to spend time at a dealership waiting for your car.....great free coffee and Thai Tv..........something to look forward to....

Songkran is celebrated in the most idiotic ways now. I'm surprised that even the Thais allow this kind of behavior. In Phnom Penh this week it was so much calmer and relaxed. Just a kind request from the locals and a little powder on each cheek.

May I ask how much clearer it was to look for your wifes long time family members home with the window down rather than up ?

I ask this because I some times wonder how much clearer I could see if I took the windscreen out of my car.

I spent 2 days watching Thais having the time of their lives. I bet most of them were thinking 'I wonder how many boring humdrum farang are hating the fact we are having fun'.

Last year I got out the go pro camera on my big bike and rode around and filmed it. That was enough for me.

You wound the window down during Songkran? Jesus.

That ought to teach you.....

People wait all year to vent. I think Songkran is a way to legally unleash pent up aggression. It is amazing to see how people can be allowed to trash private vehicles. No lines are drawn, and even businesses are water damaged.

It could be a fun holiday....with some containment. I am surprised that more fights don't break out. I thought I could handle it...and I did....but I got miffed at one farang who put on a big haughty smirk and squirted me harshly..aiming only for the eyes and ears...for more than half a minute. I had no weapon, so I ran in (his) bar and grabbed the nearest bucket and soaked him good. He started whigning about how I can't do that in the bar (he was at an entrance and thought his location gave him immunity)

Hah...fat chance. He who hides behind skirts will be be the first to receive. Neither one of us enjoyed this.

Best Songkran ever this year, stayed at wifeys had the tribe around, played very loud morlam, drank Hong Thong and Leo, a few of the "older" more seasoned members of the family were rather worse for wear and the dancing was...... well on par for Nana.( no nudity )

A bit of water splashing but nothing aggresive.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is why you cant trust Thai workers. the 7-11 next door was open and swimming in an inch of water whilst the staff in drenched uniform set up a big blue drum full of ice water and that attracted numerous squirters to the opposites side . You couldn't get near the 7-11 !, no customers, I wonder what the owner would have thought of that

sure glad the Thais haven't heard about using eggs

We were warned back in the '90s the louts near Betong used this tactic to take a car down.

as soon as you use your wipers, you are dead in the water as the window goes insolubly opaque

I don't think they intentionally try to damage property or injure people. Most people simply get caught up in the fun and it's like a natural, drug-free high.

Anybody who lives here knows what it's like every April. If you don't like it/don't want to get soaked, then stay indoors and keep your windows closed.

One day of splashing is enough for me, then I just stock up on food and beer, close my gate and stay in the garden for the remaining two days.

It's their way of having a bit of fun so let them have at it!
