how to control Firefox memory ?

Featured Replies

Often getting warning= Memory! Plus freezing .And there is fleeting yellow notice on the screen = memory has been increased. Alas, to no avail. Same with restarting Firefox.

As I am typing, 2 Tabs are open, Gmail and Thaivisa , memory usage 474 MG,

I had 6 tabs open over 1 GB memory.

Windows 7, 8.1, 10?

What are your current Virtual Memory settings

(Control Panel / System / Advance System Settings

Advanced (tab), Performance Settings: Settings (button)

Or has the FireFox stopped managing its memory properly.

I had the same problem with Firefox on windows 7, SP1, but I don't remember which version exactly.

Update solved this issue. I also recommend check add-ons, especially Adblock plus ...

Just for the record. I'm running Debian GNU/Linux right now, Firefox using 235 MB, 8 tabs, youtube, gmail ...

If you have old computer, try Linux

Good luck

A Firefox reset can be useful from time to time.

Reset done x times, always when FF drove me nuts with= Not responding. That was before the memory issue came up. The other suggestions I will try and report back.

Now it is getting interesting. After each strange behavior of FF I wrote many comments to Firefox.

Just now Firefox came in and was installed immediately. Sky-high were my hopes.

FIRST OBSERVATION= MEMORY ISSUE NOT SETTLED

Now I have no choice but to try all your suggestions, Stay Tuned!

Hello,

I wanted to report about the FINALE. Well, I did follow what you all had recommended. Outcome= Firefox works smooth as silk (Pun intended) Only I have no clue what in the end was the solution. No matter, it works!

Thanks to all of you.

I know what you are talking about...

Firefox becomes extremely laggy with, let's say 20-30 open tabs and RAM consumption at around 700-1000MB (8GB RAM available)

Even closing a tab can last up to 3-5 seconds.

With a new profile, FF is running much better, but without addons, cache and history, it's pretty useless.

I would switch to Chrome in a second, but I miss the "Tabmix-plus" addon...

I too, know what you are taking about without pointing out why I cannot befriend myself with Chrome. Must be emotional.

I've had to switch over to opera, FF was hanging quite often. It might be adblockplus that is causing this as TV as well as other sites make a lot of 3rd party calls that seems to slow things down, but running opera with adp is causing no problems. Opera is taking up a lot less memory then FF did, even with extensions and plugins disabled.
