Most Thais satisfied with "Peace" under Prayut govt

BANGKOK, 19 April 2015 (NNT) - Most Thai people are satisfied with the government’s success in keeping the country peaceful with no political turmoil. The government’s anti-corruption policy also rates well, according to the result of a Suan Dusit Poll revealed on Sunday.

Respondents noted changes in several areas after six-months under Gen Prayut. Most respondents, or 87.98% are satisfied with the state of peace and absence of political rallies, followed by 80.53% who were happy with the serious action being taken against corruption and 73.09% who are satisfied with social regulations.

There were also several areas where respondents were dissatisfied. 88.74% of them were disappointed with the failure to control the higher cost of living and product prices; 84.16% were dissatisfied with the government's use of power to restrict public opinion; and 79.69% were unhappy with an excessive use of laws and regulations.

However, 57.35% of the respondents said they are more satisfied than disappointed with the government’s work; 28.78% are both satisfied and disappointed in some respects; and 13.87% are more disappointed than satisfied as the government is not an elected one, resulting in less international confidence.

The poll was conducted among 1,572 people nationwide during 17th-19th April after the announcement of the results of the government's first six months performance on 17th April. The poll was aimed at comparing public opinion before and during the rule of Gen Prayut.

Pity about the rabid farangs who cannot wait for things to return to the bad ol' days. They just won't be happy until there is blood on the streets again.

Or the gullible farangs who seem to be the only people who buy into these polls. They are a source of much amusement amongst Thais - but you knew that, right?

No, I think you are quite wrong; a lot of farangs know that without an ongoing dialogue that includes all the Thai people, whatever colour shirt they wear, this, very sadly, is just the ‘calm before the storm’.

How long have you been in Thailand ? Or followed the politics ? You do know what "ongoing dialogue" means, don't you ?

That is how the bloody coup started in the first place, because of a breakdown in the ongoing dialogue.

We already had the calm before the storm. You must have missed it. It was just before Yingluck finished her rule.

...and the warm, fuzzy, self congratulatory statements just keep on flowing...kind of like what food poisoning does to the body...it flows from every orifice.

You would know, your posts being a perfect example on this "flowing"...................

Have not read one yet that would rate a good contribution to the forum.

Ordinary Thais may not have much of an interest in polls but those running the country do.

It didn't take long for someone with links to the army to start the excessively named ' Thai Researchers for Community Happiness ' whose poll results are farcical and we know what the PM thinks of polls, only positive ones acceptable.

'only positive ones acceptable'

Isn't there a couple of negative results for the government in this one? I'm afraid that you won't get A + B + C if you don't have some of the necessary (but unpopular) things such as D + E in operation. Marshal law and then article 44. have been key in maintaining peace and stability and not rushing into an election, because they were clearly not free and fair under the previous electoral system but instead reforming the laws and rules of the elections seems to be a much better and sensible thing to do.

All of you 'election obsessives must learn to be patient and not rock the boat. As for article 44 - please tell me in what way, any way, Prayut has abused this article and used it against the people. I can give you plenty of means as to how it has benefited the people, just say, if you want me to elaborate further on this to prove the point!!!

The poll was conducted among 1,572 wasted people celebrating Songkran with Laokau, beer and whiskey nationwide during 17th-19th April

You forgot to add they had guns pointed at them when asked the questions, or is that just another bit of anti-junta bs ?

The poll was conducted from a total of 1,572 people across the country during April 17-19 after Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha disclosed its performance after six months in office.

The opinion poll revealed that most Thai people are satisfied with the government’s success in keeping the country peaceful with no political disturbance.

Besides, the government’s anti-corruption policy also satisfied most people.

Most people viewed significant changes in several areas after Gen Prayut and his cabinet ruled the country.

Most people or 87.98% asked are satisfied with the state of peace and no political rallies, while 80.53% agreed with the tougher action being taken against corruption, and 73.09% are satisfied with social regulations.

But at the same time, most people or 88.74% voiced dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to control higher cost of living and product prices; 84.16% with the government’s use of power to restrict public opinion; and 79.69% unhappy with an excessive use of laws and regulations.

Asked to weigh between satisfaction and disappointment with the work of the government in the past six months, 57.35% said they are more satisfied than disappointed with the government’s work while 28.78% are both satisfied and disappointed in some respects.

Silly me. I thought the coup occurred because Suthep et Al failed to completely oust the elected government and they had to fall back on on the last resort and use the coup as their fail safe.

But what do I know.
