Quick question in the hope of a quicker in and out at CW with 2nd year extension of stay based on retirement :

Will CW accept a bank letter from the day before (and copies of Bank book from day before) if the bank book is updated the same day as application?

From these forums NOT, but a friend tells me the way he does it is go to the bank teller machines BEFORE the bank opens, withdraw Bt500 or so then update passbook at machine outside branch?. So I assume his letter is day before or is he pre-empting the request by IO to update passbook? (can't contact him to ask right now)

Do they accept this?

They will accept a bank letter done the day before. But you will certainly need your bank book updated on the same day.

whistling.gif In CW down on the 1st floor most banks have branch offices.

I am not sure about all banks, but I know for a fact that Bangkok Bank will do a bank letter on the same day at that branch office.

I suspect other major banks will also do the same thing, but I can't personally verify this from my own experience.

Bangkok Bank I can personally verify that it can be done

You will need your passbook and your passport for identification.

The cost is about 100 Baht as far as I know.... they May have raised that fee to 200 Baht this year.

The bank letter will be accepted upstairs for your retirement extension/ renewal and the process of getting the letter is done in 15 minutes or less as they print it out by computer.

So you can get a bank balance letter dated the same day you make your renewal application at CW downstairs on the 1st floor.

Easily done.

Here in the sticks: I do bank letter and book update at Bangkok Bank one day before driving to immigration.

Takes 10 min at Bangkok Bank, 100 Baht (September 2014).

Next day show at Khon Kaen immigration.

Never any questions.

Maybe CW has different requirements (as fairly easy to be done on the premises for most applicants).

What I read here:

Don't do any balance change/book update after receiving the letter (not even filling up)?

They "don't like it"?

To update a bank book without recent transactions you have to go to the bank clerk.

Not possible at the self service stations.

As described above you can certainly get the letter from the branch of your bank in the basement of the Immigration office at Chaengwattana. However on a day where there's a lot of people or a huge queue, you may not want to leave it to this point.

I always assume if I leave anything to the last minute a problem will come up so I generally don't do the letter on the day of the application for the extension. I have done three extensions at CW, the last in January this year. Each time I have done it with a bank letter obtained the previous day from my own branch, and then made a deposit of 1000B by deposit machine on that day.

The next day, the day of the application, you withdraw the 1000B, restoring your balance to the exact number stated on the letter, and update the book. The advantage is you can do both of these at machines before banks are open, not have to wait in line in a bank, and it's literally a 5 minute job. All you need then is your photocopy of the last page of your bank book, which you can get after you get your ticket number at CW, just by using a copy shop in the basement.

They have never objected to, or ever commented on the transaction being done after the letter, and this is on three consecutive years with different officials each time. So I'm 100% sure at CW this is never an issue.

I tried to follow your advice, but had forgotten that as my account is not in Bangkok there is a 10 THB fee for deposits and a 20THB for withdrawals.  So I ended up having to go to the downstairs branch anyway for a manual update...

Out of curiosity I asked the IO about how long the bank letter was valid for, and she said 7 days, as long as the passbook is updated and copied on the day of application.

I just was at Chaeng Wattana on Friday.

The Bank letter was from Thursday, but this year the officer told me to put 100 Baht to the account, update the book and copy the book.. no new bank letter needed. Last year it was still OK, the update on the book was from Thursday as well.

Back in the SuanPhlu days my letter was always dated a couple days before.

Same at CW in the beginning.

Then CW started to insist on same day letter.

Previous day(s) no longer accepted.

Easy done since banks have branches in the basement.

I moved to Ubon last year and did my first extension here last October.

Letter was dated same morning but here they wanted an additional letter from the bank showing "movements" in my account for the past three months. Checking my bank book apparently not enough.

Fortunately my bank has a branch near Immigration so it was just a matter of running there.
