According to a recent Boston Herald / Franklin Piece poll, Bernie Sanders leads Hillary Clinton 44% to 37%.

among likely Democratic voters. In the past few days, over 100,000 Americans have attended his stump speeches - far more than any other candidate on either side of the aisle. It would be cool to see Sanders and Trump battle it out next year. One candidate fully supports cushioning the super rich, the other doesn't.

In New Hampshire.

Not nationally, however. Nationally HRC is far out ahead of Bernie and all the rest of 'em on either side of the aisle.

New Hampshire is next to Vermont which is of course the state Bernie is elected from to the Senate as an Independent.

Both states have their southern borders with Massachusetts and their northern borders with Canada. Upstate New York state borders Vermont to the west and a number of people in Vermont who work in upstate NY originated in New York City, as did Bernie who still speaks Brooklyn (and Howard Dean et al).

New Hampshire, Vermont (and Maine) are historically rural Republican northern New England. Conversely, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts are southern solid blue New England which since WW2 have been post-industrial, high tech, metropolitan, fast afoot post-doc types. During the post-war period wealthy New Yorkers and we in southern New England moved north to take 'em over up there. Converted most of 'em a while back. smile.png

So since Bill Clinton in 1992 Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine have voted D for prez every time which is a complete reversal of their history. Judging now from the poll in your post however, it seems we let too many in to NH from NYC cause it is obvious New Hampshire Democrats have become Vermont leftist socialist populists too. biggrin.png

Another people's republic USA state. clap2.gif

I agree Bernie is a (charming) old hippie with no chance of being president. So not sure what you're on about here.

Some analysis on Bernie that posters here might be interested in. I'd be interested in your thoughts:

My thought is absolutely nothing will change if you vote for HRC... more establishment and money-men policies. A charming, politically savvy, old hippie might be just what the doctor ordered...

You could be right. Obama's out-of-left-field primary victory in 2008 against establishment candidates and subsequent two presidential victories against Republican establishment candidates, not to mention Trump's recent surge seems to indicate that Americans of all stripes are looking for a new kind of politics.

This "Make America Great" trope may fire up the Republican base but I doubt it moves most Americans. Most realise that the real issues are:

Crumbling infrastructure

Still many with inadequate or too expensive healthcare

Wide income disparities

Climate change

As to "making America Great" - here's the thing. As Obama himself has said, in no other country would his story have been possible. Despite pulling out all the stops and countless millions spent by the scare-mongering industry, in voting for Obama, ordinary Americans were overwhelmingly guided by hope rather than fear. THAT is what makes America great.

The money on Bernie being elected prez is now 9-1 compared to the 33-1 that it had been four weeks ago. Today is the first time in fact Bern has got a single digit to the left of the hyphen (yesterday Bern was at 12-1). Which puts Bernie up there with Jeb who is at 4-1 same as he has been for a couple of months.

Rubio and Trump are the same at 14-1, which is bad news for one of 'em and it ain't The Donald. At 16-1 are Walker, Kasich, and Joe Biden. Ted Cruz btw is at 40-1, but Tinny Ted can take some comfort that Carly Fiorina is waaay down on the big board.

That's the good news.

So here's the bad news for the Republicans and the right.....

The money is still on HRC at odds that are still even, same as they have been the past three months.

Follow the money.

There was a recent interview with Trump - remember the guy who's leading the Rep candidates and drawing the biggest crowds of any Republican:

interviewer: "Bernie Sanders is drawing bigger crowds than you."

Trump: :"That's simply not true"

interviewer: "yes it is. Here are the numbers....." (he's cut off by Trump)

Trump: "Ok well, he's getting 23,000 at a rally, while I'm getting 12,000, but ........ (his ramble fizzles to unintelligable dribble....)"

These are two separate political parties, working through the sausage making process to determine who will be the nominee of each respective party. At this early date any comparisons between what is happening in the opposite party's process is premature and perhaps a bit silly.

Well, maybe the whole process is silly. But it's still a numbers game. Ask Al Gore or Bush Jr. about whether a few numbers count.

If Trump was getting the biggest numbers in attendance at his events, he'd be standing at the top of Trump Towers and yelling it through a bullhorn, "You see. I told you I'm the greatest!"

It might be if one is not a player.

Politics is organic.

It's like being at a movie and going to the rest room then when you get back to your seat you missed something significant, which may well disqualify you from trying to anticipate the plot or the theme. Which could very well mean you also miss out on who gets the Academy Award.

At a pulp fiction movie one can step out as much as you like and not miss a thing. Or one can just ignore the cinema altogether to not know any of this.

I feel sorry (nah not at all) for all these next term presidential hopefuls. They all now know that they will only have the mantle for one term as Kanye West will walk it for the 2020 term. Will be so fitting for the US when Kim Katrashcan is first lady. smile.png

When the Des Moines Register polled the Iowa Caucuses before Bernie Sanders officially entered the campaign, he trailed Hillary Clinton by more than fifty percentage points. In May, just after the campaign was announced, her lead was right around 40 points. In June, the margin went to twenty-five. Now at the cusp of August/Sept., the deficit is at 7 points. Several months before primaries start, and 14 months until the election.

Of course he won't be nominated and that's a good thing, a man who labels himself a socialist, not to mention that he is a Jew, has no chance of actually being elected!

Don't be so sure. They said that about a certain uppity negro as well!

It's incredible to me that both Bernie & El Trump are in many ways tapping into the same 'In so fed up of politician's sentiment from both ends of the spectrum. Trump as bat shit crazy as he is, has in many ways exposed the dirty rotton truth of political contributions. In effect saying, if you want the Koch Bros, cut out the middle man. Bernie also appeals to to left wing electorate that feels that the Democrat establishment just pander to the opinion polls.

Which is why the public, for now at least respond to them, they seem above the spin doctors, opinion polls and 'tell it like it is'

Socialist!!

That is all the GOP has to say about Bernie.

Once you get past the cold war propaganda of how socialism is evil, you see that some socialist governments are doing well.

Take off the blinders and you can see the U.S. is one of those socialist countries.

Social Security, the Dept of Veterans affairs, both socialism and both work pretty well for the people of the U.S.

Limited socialism is a functional form of government.

Get over the cold war..the USSR is long one now.

Feel the Bern.

, We are social animals, we live in a society,

I dont know how some people are so weak minded that have bought in to the capitalist propaganda, and are fighting against their own best interest.

Socialism is the only way to live in a just. social society.

The alternative is the end of civil society and the other extreme to communism which is Capitalism

Both extremes, and as such those who advocate it, are extremists.

Neither of these extremes has truly existed in a pure form because they deny human nature, and both have failed us in many different levels

Communism fails individuality, and Capitalism fails social responsibility.

, but proponents of both are trying to polarize us to either extreme end.

Socialism is the middle of the road solution that combines individualism with social responsibility and allows for both.

Go Bernie,

I challenge anyone to listen to what he has to say and find something wrong with it.I have not so far.

I could support Sander's policies in a different package, but I am not feeling him. In U.S. politics the socialist label is a deal breaker. Why waste time on a guaranteed loser?

Anyone who can't see his complete lack of a real chance ... well, I guess Colorado is nice this time of year.

Didn't u have the same dogmatic denial regarding the selection of a new host for the Daily Show...? wink.png

No, I didn't. I didn't think he would be chosen but I didn't have as definite feelings about that as this. Also it's not the same thing. That's entertainment. This is president of the USA. BTW, I've seen interviews with Trevor lately trying to do American politics which is what the Daily Show is mostly about, and he came off as inauthentic and lame. Also, not very funny. It's not that he's a foreigner. It's him. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a very talented comedian but don't think the Daily Show is the right fit for him. I can tell he's terrified too and he should be. Sure he can read the lines that the talented writers will feed him, but coming from him, it will never to be totally BELIEVABLE.

I think the Daily Show will go down in influence due to choosing him. Was there a choice that might have saved it from that decline other than Trevor? That I don't know.

I know gambling is illegal but I am so confident that Sanders won't be president that I would be willing to bet every last penny that I have on that and I would still be sleeping like a baby.

How's that for definite.

Do u think he can beat Hilary? Personally I have the idea that peeps are feeling anti-establishment on the right and the left in this election cycle and the Bern can draw out a percentage of the population that hasn't felt they've had a real candidate in decades. Something's in the wind... (no I'm not talking about the hot air from GOP debate...!!! LOL!).
