EUR -> THB best option?

Featured Replies

Hi Thai freaks :)

I am moving back to Thailand, and currently living abroad working. So my last salary will be paid out just 2 days before i will leave for Bangkok. Where I am now, they local banks dont deal in Thai Bath.

So my question is, where do I get the most value for my money? I was thinking about just going to a Bangkok Bank branch in Bangkok and ask them to buy my EUR's and give me some Thai bath, as they seem to have great rates. The thing is i dont know if they even will exchange without any notice? I have a bank account in Bangkok bank from Chiang mai Branch, but it hasent been used for over 1 year. its around 3.000 EUR i would like to exchange.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

/Farbak.

You can use the bank, or some people use Vasu, north side of Sukhumvit, under the Nana BTS Station, near Soi 7, or Superich has places, mentioned often.

By the way, it's Baht, not bath, and it is almost always better to exchange for Baht in Thailand.

In Bangkok, VASU (mentioned above) and Superrich are the currency exchange houses that generally offer the best rates. VASU is probably the more convenient location of the two, depending upon where one is staying. (Some will also cite the "Arab money changers" on Sukhumvit Soi 3.)

Superrich now have two locations in Asok and Nana BTS. Best rates as far as I can tell.

Never exchange money into THB outside the country, rates are horrible.

For anyone coming from the USA where money changers (airport kiosk or bank) charge exorbitant rates for swapping cash, Thailand is a breath of fresh air.

Every time I traded cash in the USA, I always wondered where the rest of my money was. Airport or bank, they always kept way too much of it.

Unless it's a big chunk of change, just about anywhere in BKK is going to be okay. If it's a big chunk where a percent or two is going to hurt, shop around. Otherwise, don't sweat it.

the rates that Superrich offers at Asok and Nana are A LOT worse than at their HQ near Central World, and not better than the average exchange booth of any Thai bank in the downtown area.

For example today: 1 Euro is worth 37,60 Baht at the HQ, but only 37,40 at Nana/Asok.

As 3000 € is quite a lot of money, I would suggest to go to the Superrich HQ near centralworld.

The difference would be, depending on the day of the week (spreads can vary 500% at Superrich!), at least 20 € if exchanging at their main office.

Weekends are to be avoided as the spread can be very high.

Best days are Monday afternoon and Tuesday. From Thursday onwards, the spread is already increasing again. Observing this since years

Hi beechguy.

Actually I will be staying just 2 mins walk away from Nana BTS.

Vasu sounds like a good option for me, do they charge any fee?

No commission fee at VASU. Take your passport with you.
