TCT contemplating 5 tourism boosting packages

BANGKOK, 8 May 2015 (NNT) - The Tourism Council of Thailand is to propose measures to boost tourism in Thailand, hoping to breath a new life into the local tourism scene during the low season.

These measures include a scheme that increases the maximum amount of Value Added Tax refund for tourists from 15,000 baht to 100,000 baht, the council revealed, saying this program focuses on wealthy Thais who like to travel.

The TCT will also call on governmental units to replace their sending of officials on field trips abroad with domestic sightseeing tours.

Another interesting scheme is a low-interest loan offer for Small and Medium Enterprise travel agencies with the help of the SME Bank.

The loan will carry an interest rate of 7 percent, with the Ministry of Finance absorbing 3 percent, leaving operators to pay only 4 percent of the interest rate.

The council deems this scheme the most crucial one to boost tourism during this low season.

So (wealthy)Thais can now reclaim VAT when they travel overseas - can I ask how that helps Thailand ?

They often put a lot of emphasis on what they call domestic tourism which is Thais traveling in Thailand. I got that from it but who knows.

Yippe, 3 cheears for the rich facepalm.gif

For the sake of argument lets say, although it's never happened before, that these tourism ideas do " lure" the unsuspecting here and what, exactly, will Thailand have to get them to come back .

Go with known winners and expand Pattay's Walking St, Bangla in Phuket, restore Full Moon parties, remove bans on drinking/smoking/gambling/ and

send the police on a permanent holiday. LETS PARTY !

More great ideas from the braintrust in TCT/TAT ...clap2.gif

I am struggling to get my head around this! Are they talking about Thai who live overseas?

Amazing Thailand take a tour on our highway to hell view our burial sites of smuggled slaves be apart of our human trafficking scheme where you yourself can enjoy being held in squalor beaten and whipped till they bury in in remote jungle. Soon all farang will be flocking to push to front of line and only cost you 1 million baht payable in advance of course.cheesy.gif

Can't TAT and TCT merge? They sound the same.

A good idea then we'd only get one set of bogus figures.
