Police seize 200 pangolins bound for China

BANGKOK: -- Police seized more than 200 pangolins smuggled in a ten-wheel truck in Bangkok and the driver was arrested for further investigation.

Uthai Kaewpatima, 36, was arrested when police were tipped-off about pangolin smuggling. The police searched his canvas-covered truck and found 214 pangolins in 41 plastic containers.

Mr. Uthai said he was hired for Bt70,000 baht to drive the truck from the southern province of Surat Thani to park at a market in suburban Bangkok. However, he said he didn't know what was in the truck.

Police believed that the pangolin smuggling gang gathered protected animals from the forest in Surat Thani to deliver to China as an exotic delicacy in specialised restaurants. Some gourmets like to

consume pangolin as people believe that the animals are as good as aphrodisiac.

The seized pangolins will be later sent to Khao Kiew Zoo in Thailand's eastern province of Chon Buri.

In case anyone else like myself had to look up what a pangolin is here is the info:

The pangolin is a long-tailed, sticky-tongued tropical Old World (Asia and Africa) mammal. Most species feed at night, sleep during the day, and roll into an impenetrable ball when threatened.

The pangolin's body is covered with large, flat, imbricated horny scales; it somewhat resembles the New World armadillo in terms of its feeding habits and its employment of a curled up, hedgehog-like defensive posture. It has a long sticky tongue which it uses to gather termites and ants.

The pangolin is also called scaly anteater, any of the armored placental mammals of the order Pholidota. Pangolin, from the Malayan meaning "rolling over," refers to this animal's habit of curling into a ball when threatened. About eight species of pangolins, usually considered to be of the genus Manis, family Manidae, are found in tropical Asia.

1. China has about 1.3 billion people, not 2 billion.

2. 1.3 billion people brainwashed? I suggest you travel to, and study a bit more about, China and see, hear, listen and talk to the people for yourself....than judge; you will be very surprised about a country and its people with more than 5000 years of history.

3. If you think all people in China think, eat* and are the same, think a few more times yourself; are ALL people in your own country also the same?

Yea, well find me one who thinks that Tibet is not a province of China and who does not defend the Chinese colonial occupation of that country. Sorry, but the information and education provided to the people of the PRC over the past 50 years does have more issues than information provided to peoples of other countries. Yea, Chinese have been around some 5,000 years, but so too have us whites, blacks, semites, and countless others.
