U-Tapao gets more and more lifely thumbsup.gif

Not for a one day "border run" unfortunately (arriving 19h at Kuala Lumpur).

KUL 14:30 -> UTP 15:25
UTP 15:55 -> KUL 19:00

Still, a night in KL is no bad thing and the bus from the AA terminal to the city centre is only 10 RM plus there are loads of decent hotels in the city centre around 100 RM.

AA continues to expand and improve in my opinion, my last flight with them to KL arrived 25 mins early !

Air Asia have inflated flight times. They may say that it takes 75 minutes. In reality it takes 60. So when they land after 60 they boast that they got you there early.

I doubt that somehow, how could a low cost carrier operate efficiently by doing that ?

IMO they're just better than most, if not all, of the opposition. Who flies to Singapore now with Thai or Singapore A or even Jetstar, Tiger and Thai Lion ?

Opening-up new routes would be magic, save us the long trek to DM.

There is no inflated travel times at Air Asia wink.png

Just compare the domestic flight times from DMK and you will see differences of 5 min to Chiang Mai, 5 mins to Phuket accros different airlines.

All flight schedules need buffers to make realistic planning.

Its the normal case that a flight comes in a bit ahead of planned time (even more true on long haul).

The flight time from DMK to Khon Kaen varies from 50 min to 1 hour.

Now guess who shows the shortest time? I won't tell tongue.png

The theoretical distance KKC to DMK is 365 km.

Do your math. Of course 50 min is still with a buffer.

I actually fly to Singapore with Cathay,, DM is a nightmare to get to compared with swampy but if you need to stretch out your budget I guess you will use the budget airline and the budget airport.

It's not just about the budget: AA fly 6 times a day, Cathay only one direct flight.

And DM is yet another excuse for a night in BKK !

I agree its not just about budget, I get a scheduled airline with baggage, food and service included to me wins hands down over a budget airline from DM. If I wanted time in BKK I'd live there.

If it's only a 3 hour flight, I can live with flying on a budget airline. Factor in the relative closeness to Pattaya v Swampy and this looks quite attractive.

Short of taking a taxi, is there any inexpensive way to get from U-Tapao to Pattaya and vice-versa?

Kan Airlines which also uses U-Tapao provide a free shuttle service for both outbound and inbound flights ( from Sukhumvit Road) for their passengers but I couldn't see Air Asia doing that.

But some people talk about a taxi fare of 800 baht which I refuse to pay as a matter of principle so I am only using Kan because of that free shuttle.

Baht buses and full size buses run up and down Sukhumvit road. You would need to get off the bus at the Queen Sirikit hospital.

U-Tapao airport is a few Km from Sukhumvit road. I have seen baht buses and tuk-tuks in that area but I don't know if there is a regular route to the airport.

that's utter nonsense. their schedules are extremely tight. because time is money for a Budget Airline.

Plus I would say that since moving to less-congested DMK Airport, they are maybe the most ON-TIME Airline in all of South-East-Asia. More on-time than THAI AIR and BANGKOK AIR for sure.

The departure / arrival statistics of DMK prove that

What type of plane are they using on this route ? I hope Airbus 320-321.
