webfact
Chavalit predicts more coupsThe NationBANGKOK: -- The next constitution won't be the last constitution as there will be more coups in the future, predicted former Prime Minister General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, who also expressed his readiness to become prime minister again.Chavalit Friday said Thailand was trapped in a cycle of political conflict, and whether or not the country could achieve national reconciliation was up to the people and not how well the charter was written. But he warned that reconciliation could not be achieved as long as some people still felt a double standard existed in terms of how people were treated politically.Chavalit made the prediction while celebrating his 83rd birthday at his home, with many senior Pheu Thai Party figures and redshirt leaders visiting him.The ex-premier wanted as his birthday present peace in the Kingdom.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/Chavalit-predicts-more-coups-30260192.html-- The Nation 2015-05-

MobileContent
Didn't he sell his MPs to Thaksin? Not really. NAP moved to TRT and they got a couple of portfolios. When the army removed Chatchai the little boy Korbsak (Moved from CTP to Democrat Party) and he got a portfolio in the Chuan Lekpai government. In 2008 Abhidit bring ob board BJT (Newin from Buriram) and they got portfolios in exchange for supporting the generals which cost them dearly as they lost most of the seats. Now it is Chavalit. PTP is dead but new parties will be launched as soon the General allows Political gatherings. The Generals also will be very careful to move against Chavalit. They try to pin him to the Samui bombing (still no findings by the way who is behind) but the North and Northeast vote for anyone as long they are not from the South or Bangkok so if Chavalit runs for the election and combines the red shirts and as well the Newin Group he will win and beat the democrats by 2 to 1.5 and he is right a coup will come up again in a few years time but he might change some laws that coup leaders will be send to the firing squad next time and executed on the spot. EyesWideOpen
1. The sun will rise tomorrow 2. There will be more coups in Thailand It is simply an apparently endless cycle of pigs fighting at the feeding trough. What a shame for such a lovely country. smutcakes
You can love him or hate him, but he this time he is speaking the truth. He should retire and disapear, but why would he when people like Chai Chidchob who is 87 have been appointed on reconciliation committees.

espinoza
Why do Thailand have all this probems? The Thais cannot behave in a que. They beaves like monkeys in the traffic. I think they are close related. How can anyone expect some of this kind run a country well??? They do not care if 150 people are killed everyday in the traffic. If 5 Thais re killed in an accident in Laos, everybody care, and even the masss-mediatakecare of this. Life in Thailand is equal to the life of a mosquito. Thailand is probably the most brutal country in the world. No passion, no mercy, no love - just money.

Srikcir
There is nothing WRONG with Thailand being trapped in a cycle of political conflict. The same might be said of every democratic nation! For example, in South Korea you'll see fist fights in the legislature between political rivals and police suppression of political demonstrations in the streets. In the US congress you'll hear the president being disparaged and called a liar. Democracy is a noisy and vigrous institution. It is not for the political faint-hearted. Political conflict is the clay that molds democracy. It is rather HOW democracy is fired into a solid institution that can be sustained. The Thai aristocrats must resort to breaking the democratic mold with military coups to sustain their powers as they cannot appeal to the majority for legitimate succession to power. Thailand has an ARISTOCRAT TRAP - not a democtaic trap. It is a trap that can be cleared by the Thai pluralicity through "extra-constituency" means. But thus far, the electrorate remains complacent. Maybe the threat of an unmended, totalitarian draft 2015 constitution becoming law will give them courage to take hold of their own sovereignty. greenchair
The reason there will continue to be coups is simply, the Democrats cannot win an election and cannot accept the results of any other party winning.

soalbundy
This old fool wanted all signs in Thailand to be in Thai only. When the army removed Chatchai the little boy Korbsak (Moved from CTP to Democrat Party) and he got a portfolio in the Chuan Lekpai government. I think you mean Chatichai (not Chatchai) .. and he was originally "arrested" by Gen. Kaset of the RTAF aboard his private plane. Gen. Kaset then informed RTA general Suchinda who maneuvered his way to be PM. Story was that Chatichai and just signed a document that would have brought the Thai military under civilian control. NickJ
Like I posted before. People here need to have an understanding of Thai politics from about 1933 till now. It has always been the exact same model. A revolving door but just with a very few diffrent people involved each time. Writing here that its reds or yellows or just one persons fault is crazy. The exact same repeating story over and over decade after decade. Open your eyes, google it........Thai Politics 1933 to 1973 wiki Edited May 16, 2015 by NickJ

I am not sure if you are aware, but on TVF, everything about anything anywhere in Thailand is the fault of Thaksin Shinawatra, and to deviate from this view will see you labelled as a criminal fugitive loving, red shirt, buffalo plus many more adjectives... but you are of course correct. Of course the political merry go round of coups, constitution writing, corruption has been going on since before TS was even born.
