Diesel on the rise

Anyone know why the price of diesel is going up. They raised it at least 3 times in the last 4-6 weeks. Articles say govn't was holding prices steady.

26.39 today, 25.96 - 2 days ago, etc.

The Baht has been dropping against the USD. Oil is priced in USD. So the THB price should go up accordingly.

Has petrol been going up too? If not then it will probably be some readjustment of the variable subsidy/tax scheme that they use to maintain stable pricing.

Guess the beloved government will intervene at this point.

Not surprising that the prices rise again (not only in Thailand I guess).

Still low fuel (not diesel) prices compared to the years before (less about 10 Baht).

I realise the OP is really interested in the politics of the oil producing countries - the global prices of oil, the cost of diesel production etc etc.

It may be also interesting that in Europe diesel has become the demon fuel- and may be banned in some cities.

Does this slight increase of a few satang make a diffence. Answers on a postcard please.

In the UK we pay more than twice that.

Price of the actual fuel is CHEAPER in UK......however the UK adds duty and then puts 20% VAT on the total. THis shows that the fuel comp[anies in Thailand especially government favourite PTT are able to make more profits that in the UK. .....but of course you have to accept the higher fuel consumption resulting from the condition of Thai roads and the larger engines.
