Where to get a new passport photo for U.S. passport replacement

whistling.gif This may seem like a stupid question..... but where now do you get a proper size correctly formatted U.S passport photo in Bangkok?

There used to be stores by the U.S. embassy and in shopping malls that had kiosks that did passport photos.... but now with everyone carrying around a cellphone with camera, I can't find such a place anymore.

I need to renew my U.S. passport and need to do a picture for it.

I have lots of visa photos, but they are not the correct format for a U.S. passport photo.

Anyone who got a U.S passport replacement in the last 6 months, please let me know where you got the photo taken in Bangkok.

My passport has less than 6 months validity leftnow and I need to get a new passport soon, but the old "passport photo" places seem to have closed down.

Any suggestions?

I just renewed my US passport in Bangkok. I got the photo taken at the translation shop on the ground floor, in the back, in the building next to the consulate. As you face the consulate the building will be on the left. If you're driving you can park there and they will validate your parking ticket for I think 2 hours, so you will have plenty of time to get the photo and drop off you passport. I think I paid B140 for 6 pics.

Thanks I'll try tomorrow. I have an appointment for the 26th of May to get a new passport but I thought getting a passport photo would be easy.

Been 10 years since I did my last passport and my current passport expires in October 2015.

Actually, if you have an appointment on the 26th, you might just do as I did, go about 30 minutes before the appointment time, and stop off at the place I mentioned and have the photos taken then. Taking the pics only takes a few minutes.

This reply is from a Canadian who recently faced a similar predicament. The Cdn. Embassy requires a rubber stamp on the back of the photo stating the date it was taken, and giving the name and address of the photographer .After checking several places without success, I returned to a place I had used in the past. It is on the north side of Silom Road, on the northwest corner of Soi 34, if my memory is correct. On the opposite (south) side of Silom, the intersecting street is Pan Road.

I can't recall the name of the place, but it has Kodak signs on it. I had to wait until 10:30 a.m. for it to open.

Again, I am Canadian, and unfamiliar with the requirements for U.S. passports. But, my guess is that they could meet them.

Thanks for the info..... I found the photo both in the embassy area and got my photo done.

As you mentioned there is a photo booth a self-service booth that provides passport photos with the correct format for U.S. passport photos.

It is inside the area where Thai passport applicants apply for visas to the U.S., at the rear of the building.

The photos cost 120 Baht.....just put a 100 and a 20 baht bill into the slot, line up the camera until you get a good looking photo on the scree, press English. and then hit the camera icon displayed to take your photo.

4 photos for 120 Baht, done in 1 minute, and they fall into a bin below.

By the way if you elect to pick up your new passport in the embassy yourself they do NOT keep your expiring passport.

You get a receipt for passport fee, and they wither email you or call you when your new passport arrives.

You need to bring your old expiring passport and the receipt to pick up your new passport.

An appointment is not needed to pick up your new passport, or so I am told.

Thanks for this suggestion, they did a nice job. They are familiar with what the U.S. requirements are. The lady took four or five pics and let me choose the one I preferred, which is nice because you will be having to look at it the next ten years.

Witthayu Towers is, as noted above, next to the consulate. If coming from Sukhumvit it's located just prior to reaching the wall of the consulate grounds. The name of the shop is 'A Language Lover's Translation Centre'. It's in B Tower (the rear tower), ground floor, pretty easy to find. They take the pics, clean up the one you like at the computer, get the background, proper sizing, proportions, etc. just right. Six of them, 150 baht when I was there. 15-20 mins tops. Impressed with the service. If you are not able to DIY it's probably the next best thing.
