He said the motorcyclists were chased by officers until there were trapped on the flyover at the Ratchada-Tha Phra Intersection. There are race tracks around, and I am sure others could be put in place, but supervised, and with safety as a priority, then they can race all they like - but the public roads are NOT appropriate venues, and the perpetrators needed to be stopped and taught a lesson - even if it was just a fine, but note that 200 of them lost their bikes and will have further fines to pay to have them released. It would be even better if it were 425 x the auction price of a confiscated scooter. Just saying... Over 200 motorcycles were also seized.Most of the bikers were charged with reckless driving with total disregard of the safety of the other road users, riding without crash helmets and illegal modification of the engines.Pol Col Visarn Panmanee, deputy commander of the 8th division of Metropolitan Police Bureau, said that all the bikers were also subjected to urine tests to find out if any of them were on drug use or not.The officer said that the crackdown was planned about three weeks ago with plainclothes policemen dispatched to the scenes of the illegal street racing which are under the jurisdiction of Talad Phlu, Bang Yirua and Samray.The undercover policemen collected information about the escaping routes frequently used by the racers, their gathering points and schedules of the racing, said the colonel, adding that when everything was ready, crackdown was launched.About 100 policemen, military personnel and rescue workers of Por Teck Toeng took part in the operation which was launched at about 2 am this morning. As the bikers gathered at Thon Buri road under the Thon Buri terminal of the BTS system for the race, the police on two patrol cars switched on the sirens and gave chase prompting the bikers to escape toward Ratchapruek road where another team of officers were waiting.Meanwhile, undercover policemen were also waiting in the escaping routes ready to pounce on the illegal bikers.Altogether 359 motorbike racers and 66 female pillion riders were arrested with over 200 motorcycles. In fact, they probably welcome the excitement of the chase. They've probably outrun the dragnets so many times it's a game to them. And when they do get caught? mike324 Posted June 1, 2015 Share Posted June 1, 2015 I live around Thaksin BTS station, every single Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night a handful of these bastards would race at 1-3am and riding against the traffic. Their modded exhaust is extremely loud and pretty much wakes up the entire neighborhood. There are times where I just want to drive my car out and ram these little suckers to the pavement. Due to the surrounding on condos and BTS platform, there is a big echoing effect on the road stretching from Taksin station to Wongwian Yai, so even if they are not racing road noise is very loud to begin with. On some nights, police set up check points at the Wongwian Yai intersection and don't even bother to catch these little dick heads while they race couple hundred meters away. For those who says a race track should be built? build it where in Bangkok? who's going to pay for it? you think these penniless punks will even pay entrance to race there too? That cant even manage public roads to cars and bikes by the police who get paid to do that... A racetrack is for people who are respectful of other people Thai streets are a place where rules are far and few between ... seems like the better place for kids to race....
