PATTAYA: -- In a regular Police Meeting held at Pattaya City Hall on Tuesday, the Pattaya Police Chief announced the start of a crackdown on Lottery Vendors who were over-charging for their tickets.

It was recently announced by the Thai Lottery Commission that there was to be a price-cap on Lottery Tickets which should cost members of the public no more than 80 Baht per ticket.

Police around Thailand have now been asked to actively locate and arrest vendors who are still over-charging with some vendors reportedly selling tickets for as much as 120 Baht.

At least the motorists will get a little peace, while the police will be so busy catching the criminals selling over priced lottery tickets.

If vendor is selling over the 80 baht price, easy do not buy problem solved.

If Thias don't buy, they will lose, as they are all convinced they are going to win big. No doubt about it! The monks will have told them the lucky number. So they will pay whatever is asked.

Right. Another farang-bubble view of perceived naive Thai thinking compared to all the financial geniuses in Farang Land.

Last year Americans spent a total of $70.15 billion on lottery tickets, according to the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries.

The overpricing in Pattaya has been going on too long. You, indeed, have some greedy sellers in places like Foodland who are quite disagreeable to purchasers. She should have been culled from selling tickets long ago. Perhaps these people will go away now. Some folks enjoy buying a ticket and it gives them something to look forward to. All of you who put down the Thai lottery should take a trip to Las Vegas and see the 'civilized' fools who can't seem to give the crooks there their money in the thousands of dollars fast enough.

Arrest based on what? Is there any law on over pricing? Curious.

Dont know, but this is only a guess.

Do they need to be licensed to sell the tickets, if so they wont have one for sure,

or there are rules that they dont keep to, costs maybe ?

that could the way the cops can nab them ?

only a guess.

I normally pay 100 baht for the monthly lottery ticket. So I thought 20 baht was the commision .

the commission is included in the 80 Baht price.

would you pay 350 Baht for a 300-Baht top-up-slip for AIS or DTAC ? I guess no..... and the system is no different with those lottery tickets

Next time ask the street vendor what their profit margin is. The tickets go through several layers of distributors that drives the price up. "Lucky" ticket numbers will add a premium. Then the vendor has to cover the cost of unsold tickets. I estimate the small volume street vendor is clearing Bt1-5 per ticket sold.

What the Junta encountered in its efforts to control the end price of the tickets is that the contract and large distributors (aka "Five Rivers") will not back down on their profit margins.
