I have posted questions before about marrying a Myanmar woman in Thailand. I think that the situation is still very murky.

Now I am getting ready to return to Thailand from the U.S. and my lady believes that if she gets a regular Thai passport - for a lot of money - that would make it simpler for us to get married in Thailand, and apply for her visa to the U.S.

In the second place I think that it would still be complicated in that we will still need the document from the Burmese Office of Foreign Affairs for her permission to marry.

And, first place, is this passport completely legal - and recognized?

I know of a Burmese lady who obtained a Thai passport and ID card by paying a lot of money so she could marry a foreigner.

This is completely illegal, but was sufficient for her to marry an Irish man although I do not know where they married she certainly did not use any Burmese documents.

I guess to get a passport by this route means some poor Thai girl will forever sell her identity.
