PM Prayut affirms Thailand is speedily solving human trafficking problem

BANGKOK, 7 June 2015 (NNT) - The Prime Minister has affirmed that Thailand is speedily trying to solve the problem of human trafficking.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha said during his weekly “Returning Happiness to Thai People” TV program that the current government has always recognized the importance of finding solutions to the human trafficking problem and already made it a national agenda.

PM Prayut stated that law enforcement has been stepped up and related codes have been adjusted and strengthened while the culprits behind such a crime have been punished and victims have been given assistance.

Moreover, the Social Development Ministry has joined the Revenue Department in opening channels to receive donations from various foundations so that all the money will be distributed fairly to those in need, he said.

Its has taken a decade, and then only because of pressure from outside! Buddhists, and Muslims. Both disgusting!

Lets see if this will translate into a Tier 2 ranking by the self declared boss of the world. America.

Shouldn't really be nit picking but I note that the headline and what he is reported to have said have ever so slightly different meanings.

There is a big difference between 'solving' and 'trying to solve'. The former implies that all is under control while the latter is more correct in that they are doing their best to get on top of the problem but still have a way to go.

That aside there certainly has been progress and arrests made with Thailand now being cut out as a link in the chain.

There are still the problems of what to do with the victims who are already caught up in the net of trafficking and stopping the heinous trade at source. Both these are international problems not just something Thailand has to deal with.

"The Prime Minister has affirmed that Thailand is speedily trying to solve the problem of human trafficking."

And I'm trying to grow more hair. Let's see which happens first . . .

Speedily Yes, that's why such a massive investigation is to be wrapped up in only two weeks !

"the Social Development Ministry has joined the Revenue Department in opening channels to receive donations" gigglem.gif I am sure money will get to those "in need".

"Lets see if this will translate into a Tier 2 ranking by the self declared boss of the world. America." Safe to assume that means you trust Thailand to reform itself? FYI Tier 3 ranking limits ability to sell to USA. Are you saying that USA does not have right to decide who gets our money? If Thailand prefers human trafficking and abuse over USA markets, it can make that choice. Not like Russia invading Ukraine because Ukraine prefers trading with the west....

Reminds me somewhat of a buffoon who congratulated heartily the dark forces of Koh Tao for "eliciting" a confession from 2 helpless and innocent individuals in a certain heinous rape and murder case.

"culprits behind such a crime have been punished"

When did that happen? Supposedly the one and only ringleader Army Colonel (at the time) Manas has proclaimed his innocence and not yet been brought to trial.

However few have been identified, Royal Thai Army and Navy personnel have been implicated with involvement in human trafficking. I doubt the foreign European and Western justice agencies will view the Thai military's investigation into its own conduct as being independent and without conflict of interest.

Especially so when only last month the Chief of the Junta and PM of Thailand Army General Prayut declared that no army personnel has ever been involved in human trafficking. And he makes no apology now.
