Tourist visa extension

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just a quick couple of things I want to clarify... I entered Thailand 2 months ago on a 60 day Tourist visa which is about to expire on the 16th but I want to stay for 2 more months.

What I had planned was to go and get the 30th day extension which would give me a visa until about the 16th of July and then around the 15th i'd fly to a neighbouring country and then re-enter Thailand on a 30 day tourist visa.

My problem is on the 10th of July my partner and I will be applying for a visa for her to her come to NZ, I have to give over my passport to INZ for 3-4 weeks, and I don't want to lose a week on my visa by having to fly before the 10th.

So I want to know if I was to fly to a neighbouring country now before my visa ends (16th June), then re-entered Thailand on a 30 day tourist visa which would allow me to stay here until about 16th July, then on say the 9th of July (just before I have to give over passport) went to get a 30 day extension at Thai immigration, does this 30 day extension start from the day I go to immigration or does it start when my current visa would end?

Does anyone see anything wrong with that idea?

There are no 30 day tourist visas

If you fly out and return you will as an NZ citizen qualify for a 30 day "visa exempt" entry.

Your current visa ends when Thailand is left.

Extensions of stay are always added to the permission to stay date nothing is lost by applying early .

Which "visa" are you talking about ?

Yes, you can get a 30 day extension to a visa exempt entry.

You can get a 30 day extension of your 60 tourist visa entry. You can apply for the extension early loose no days since the extension starts at the end of the 60 day permit to stay.

You can get a 30 day extension of your tourist visa permission to stay and/or of you visa exempt entry permission to stay.

Same process. Either costs Baht 1900.

Don't wait until the last day of your current permission to stay. Nothing is lost if you apply a week or so before it ends and waiting to the last moment can leave yourself open to problems if you find the office closed for a holiday or jammed packed with applicants ahead of you or whatever.
