Hello,

Need some help and advice on this. I have the local health insurance and paid into it for over a year with a local company. Employment is now finished. I understand that I can continue the policy if I pay myself by making arrangements directly with the relevant ministry.

Can someone advise where and how to do this, bearing in mind that I have also moved from Bangkok(original registration) to Chonburi. I also heard that I have up to 6 months to go to the ministry to do this?

Thank you for any advice on the topic!

I assume you mean not local private insurance but Social Security? If you were covered under it for 13 consecutive months then you can indeed continue it on your own as long as you keep up the payments.

The HR department of your former employer should have been able to help you arrange this but assuming not, contact the Social Security Office yourself. They will also be able to help you on changing your hospital registration.

Thank you for response.

I am talking about the local public health insurance which comes with a green card and is affiliated with one hospital, .

I already have the link you provided, and I am aware that HR could have done something in the past, but I am dealing with the present situation, so I prefer to focus on the here and now

My specific questions are,

Can someone advise where and how to do this, bearing in mind that I have also moved from Bangkok(original registration) to Chonburi.?(details on what is required please)

I also heard that I have up to 6 months from the end date of employment to go to the ministry to do this?

If you can provide help on these specific questions, I appreciate it. I do not want go to the wrong place with the wrong documents, so specifics are needed.

What you are referring to is the Social Security System. It does not involve a Ministry, it is managed by the Social Security Office, link of which I provided.

You do have a maximum of 6 months after end of employment to decide to continue your enrollment, but I am not sure what happens if within that 6 month window payments are missed.

You have to arrange for monthly payments (autopay from your bank would be best). You need to discuss how to do this and also how to change your location and hospital registration with the SS office, who are usually very helpful. I cannot give you any more "specifics" than that.

According to this previous thread, there is an office at

Talat Thong Tower, 2nd floor the Sukhumvit rd just after Laem Chabang port on the right as you head to Bangkok from Pattaya

Is this the office I need to go closest to Pattaya. I hope this question is not too demanding, but I am reasonably trying to avoid running all over the place. If anyone else knows more specifics, your advice is most welcome.

As per the link provided previously, the SS office for Chonburi is:

Social Security Office of Chonburi Province

101/10 Moo 1 Sukumvit Road, Samed,
Muang District, Chon Buri 20000
Tel. 0 3878 4420-4, 0 3878 4750-4
Fax. 0 3826 1332, 0 3878 4260

For Bangkok there are many, it should say on your card which one

As you are currently registered in Bangkok I am not sure whether you should start at that office (which currently has your file) or the one you want to switch to. If it were me, I'd call and ask. The nationwide call center number is 1506. While at it, find out if you are going to need any sort of documentation from your prior employer.

Do you happen to have the address and phone no? I don't find it on the SS website.
