NRC should be canned: Rosana
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- NATIONAL Reform Council (NRC) member Rosana Tositrakul yesterday said the council should be abolished whether its members reject the charter draft or not.

Rosana said the move to amend the provisional charter to remove the NRC after the council votes on the charter draft would unduly influence the NRC members. The provisional charter stipulates that if the NRC rejects the charter, it will be abolished, and if it votes in support of the draft, it will continue to write charter organic laws.

She said she would decide whether or not to accept the charter draft depending on whether the Constitution Drafting Committee improves the charter in such a way that it brings about reform and bridges social disparities.

Asked about a new agency to drive reform to replace the NRC, Rosana said it was not clear if the new agency would be formed as suggested by the NRC. There was a need to empower the new reform body in order to bring about concrete achievements.

She said the NRC made several recommendations to help the public, such as allowing phone users to pay for phone services in seconds, liberalising solar roof installation. But they had not been included.

The last paragraph just about sums up what a vital role they are playing in reforming the country.

What do you expect in a country where the price of lottery tickets tops the ranks on the list of all other burning issues?

I don't suppose they got around to banning elected officials from receiving payments/gratuities, or putting their business interests into blind trusts. 2010 would look like a teddy bears' picnic compared to the pre-paid riots that would cause.

to also add, stopping serving members of the Armed Forces and the Police from sitting on SOE's and receiving salaries and perks from them, and thus no more conflicts of interest.

No more fee's for "consulting work" if they're still receiving State salaries either.

I would have thought that would be covered by military regulations. it is difficult here to tell if this is happening, with the large numbers of star/flag officers and that they maintain their rank after retirement.

Do you know of any specific cases?

Article 40 in the Interim Charter requires the issuance of a royal decree to determine monetary benefits for the members of the NLA, NRC, NCPO and CC. These benefits would be in addition to active duty military officer salaries and benefits.

Only one officer retired from military active duty to take a position with the Junta -created government: General Prayut. But then he remained Chief of the NCPO so his military retirement is moot from a pay perspective.

I wonder how these military guys discharge their duty while playing statesmen, it seems for the most part of there role of public service not so much, not reassuring is it regarding their performance of them or their posts In the military.

Naughty, naughty. You are making assumptions not based on facts to suit your own agenda. The statement "These benefits would be in addition to active duty military officer salaries and benefits. " is not contained in the document at all, and your assumption is certainly not proof.

I'm not saying that they aren't double dipping, just that it is yet to be proven.

There is nothing moot about Prayuth's retirement, it is a fact. and it would allow him legally to collect his pension AND a government salary.
