webfact
PAKISTANFive Thais stuck in Pakistan still being grilledMARISA CHIMPRABHATHE NATIONPAKISTAN was still questioning the five Thai students who tried to board a plane with a pistol and ammunition - and Lahore police have already referred the case to the Federation Investigation Agency, a security source said yesterday. The move may dash the hopes of their families to see them return home soon. There had been reports that four of the students would be released, as they were not the owners of the box with the pistol and ammunition found wrapped in foil. The source claimed the five took turns carrying the box so they were all questioned. The students were detained as they were about to board Thai Airways flight TG346, which left Lahore International Airport on June 12 at 11.40pm and arrived in Thailand at 6.10am.The Thai government |has dismissed as groundless reports that linked the |students at a religious school in Pakistan to the insurgency in the southern part of Thailand or the Islamic State militant group of Iraq and Syria.Norachit Sinhaseni, permanent secretary of the Foreign Ministry, said the Thai Embassy in Islamabad would do its best to provide assistance to the students, with a focus on their welfare, so that they are treated according to the law."In case their case goes to court, the embassy will help find lawyers," he said.In principle, carrying weapons into an airport is a|n offence no matter whether the bearer intentionally did |it or somebody asked him |to do it.Norachit was apparently responding to reports that a teacher had asked the students to carry the box and give it to his friend.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Five-Thais-stuck-in-Pakistan-still-being-grilled-30262407.html-- The Nation 2015-06-

Balance
So, by inference, the students did not know what was in the box? Again by inference, they are Muslim? Why can't the reporting get the basic facts straight? Suggestion: Government should offer vocational school if they ever get out of jail. They are clearly too stupid to be in a University. Colabamumbai
It is not an offence to carry weapons into many airports in America as long as you do not try and go thru security. You can carry them in your hands visible to everyone. Last weeks news and photos on the internet with it happening from one of the worlds largest email accounts holders, in their news section. halloween
Seems the myth that aluminium foil will block X-rays is still alive and well amongst the brain-dead. Also seems playing pass the parcel to minimise risk didn't work either.

We're not talking about the idiotic attitude that the septics have to guns and other lethal weapons. This is Pakistan, where arms are strictly controlled - only the army, the police and the Taliban terrorists are allowed to carry (and use) guns. Tourists are there to be shot at, not to do the shooting.
Srikcir
This case is reaching a level of prosecution not found with the attempted assassination of teen activist Malala Yousafzai. The eight of the ten accused attackers were freed because "they did not carry out the shooting." The Pakistan government would seem to have little concern about this incident when possession of firearms in Pakistan is as common as possession of umbrellas in England. Pakistan civilians can legally posses heavy weapons like RGP's and long-range missles in northern Pakistan. I wonder if the motivation is really coming from the Thai Junta that has a burr in its backside with Southern Malay-Thai insurgency. How often does the Junta proclaim it has no or little interest in events when in fact such events cause it to lose face? It is likely the Thai embassy in Pakistan is directly involved in the students interrogation.
gandalf12
Not every coountry is as leanient as Thailand. They should have known better and i my opinion the deserve whatever they get in the way of punishment. Maybe a public lashing who knows but Pakistan quit likes that punishment

What planet do you come from? Have you considered they could have been planning to hijack the plane?
