mngmn
I thought retail was a prohibited occupation for foreigners? If so how do Russians get work permits to work in department stores in Pattaya? Or should I just use my imagination and try not to be irritated about the hoops the rest of us have to jump thorough just to spend our money here

brewsterbudgen
If they can demonstrate that there are no Thais available to do the job (i.e. fluent in Russian) I guess they can satisfy the work permit conditions?

I could be wrong, but I thought that was not an option for prohibited occupations? Anyway how many Thais are "fluent" in English? The same argument would definitely not work to employ a native English speaker.

I'm not sure either, but plenty of bar managers get work permits presumably because they are catering for non-Thai customers and can demonstrate that the job couldn't be done by a Thai. I guess the same could apply to Russian stores?

Actually not many Russian tourists (or any tourists for that matter) so not much job security but good experience for an intentional marketing consultant. Hope she realises that whoever organised the work permit will leave her to rot in gaol if push comes to shove.
Soutpeel
Actually not many Russian tourists (or any tourists for that matter) so not much job security but good experience for an intentional marketing consultant. Hope she realises that whoever organised the work permit will leave her to rot in gaol if push comes to shove. Whether there is a future in the position or commenting on current market conditions wasn't your question or comment, you whinge and stamping your little feet was about they got a WP and this has been illustrated to you how this could be achieved further if the lady lady concerned has a WP how is she going to jail or even rotting in said jail..? she would be fully legal so there is no problem.....so stop taking nonsense The fact is in Thailand, if a foreigner has the necessary skill set/ qualification/ experience that is needed in Thailand, a WP is not hard to come by and there is very little if any "hoop jumping" having worked under many WP/Work visa systems in various countries around the globe, Thailand is one of the easier systems to work under Edited June 17, 2015 by Soutpeel
