I currently have True's cable internet and am paying for the 100 mbps service. It's a lot of money. And it's terrible. It used to be bad. Now it's gotten even worse.

I have to click again on just about every page I load to get it to come up. When I watch video it starts and stops. That sucks when you're trying to watch a game especially, which I do daily.

Most of the time I'm on international sites, primarily from the U.S. It appears the local speed has no bearing whatsoever on international speed.

International speed when I do speed tests are slow and very unstable. Local speed is fine.

This is the case on multiple computers and devices.

3BB has established fiber internet in our area (finally).

I figure I've got nothing to lose, but to avoid another potentially bad experience, does anyone else have 3BB's fiber service and visit international sites regularly?

I would be interested in your experience with them.

I'm also considering getting multiple providers and buying a load balancer, combining these services for one faster connection. I've spoken to a network engineer and he said it's a good idea.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

lad balancing is probably the best way forward allowing you multiple threads through international gateways, unfortunately international speeds are throttled, though youtube etc, have local mirrors and should not be that dire.

regarding having to try to open sites multiple times, that could be a dns resolution issue, what dns servers are you using?

I don't have 3bb fibre but an acquaintance has. He says it's superb. I have the lowest 3bb 10/ 1/2 and it streams UK expat TV and YouTube no problems.

Don't be fooled by Expat TV and YouTube.

At least for YouTube you must be aware that most if not all content does not come via international connections (undersea cable), but from mirror servers in the region (likely in Singapore). Google has a global array of mirror servers that are connected by dedicated lines.

A ping to youtube.com comes up in 33 ms! No further than Singapore.

Expat TV: likely the same. Can't say for sure. But my German language IPTV service is streamed from Bangkok CAT servers.

The provider itself rents dedicated international bandwidth for a price (which no private user would like to pay) to get the streams from Europe to Bangkok.

Similar applys for certain downloads that you find at your favorite website in USA, UK or where ever.

The downloads might be managed by the big players like Akamai from their global network.

Akamai's content delivery network is one of the world's largest distributed computing platforms, responsible for serving between 15 and 30 percent of all web traffic.[7] The company operates a network of servers around the world and rents capacity on these servers to customers who want their websites to work faster by distributing content from locations close to the user.

Microsoft and Facebook are two other big players operating worlwide mirror/distribution or having their dedicated lines.

Local content plus Youtube, Facebook and Microsoft: what more does it need to make a Thai happy with his internet biggrin.png

If all youtube content would go through the relatively small capacity of Thailands international bandwidth, this would lead to a standstill in an instant.

All the more reason that Expat TV is good value then.. 600b for no to minimal buffering on UK channels.. Result.. It's also the reason that I'm using Seriesubthai.com for US TV shows.. Minimal buffering. Oh and they have subtitles for the wife.

@brucegoniners:

As always it would be good if at least a few example links are provided and numbers from the speedtests (and which).

I have 3BB internet - el cheapo - installed to our home in Fang.

I do not play games - strictly SKYPE, Gmail & social media.

No TV downloads, films etc.

It seems OK but how does one compare?

Did the Ookla test before (Sunday afternoon).

Results -

Download - 11.22

Upload - 0.51

Members - your evaluation?

If you subscribe to a 10Mbps/0.5Mbps service, then it's working fine. And if it works for you, why the need to compare?

Just remember Domestic Internet Speed ≠ International Internet Speed, so anything outside of Thailand will be slower as all the users from your ISP try to utilize the same limited bandwidth resources of a congested International Internet Gateway.
