BANGKOK: -- STUDENTS who took part in a recent climate change event have agreed that it is never too late to join hands and pool efforts to curb the impacts of environmental degradation.

"Human activities play a big part in causing global warming. Therefore, we have to demonstrate our responsibility to curb the problem. It's time and solutions exist," a student representative told a seminar during Climate Diplomacy Day last Wednesday.

The seminar was part of activities for student representatives who participated in the event held under the theme "Your Choice to Make a World of Difference".

The event was jointly organised by the British, German and French embassies and a European Union delegation and staged at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Engineering.

Its objective was to raise awareness on climate change in light of the United Nations meeting in Paris for the 21st Conference of Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is known as COP 21.

French Ambassador Thierry Viteau, EU minister-counsellor Luisa Ragher and Faculty of Engineering dean Bundhit Eua-arporn were present at the Bangkok event.

Three Bangkok schools - Chaopraya Wittayakom, Watsungwej and Trimit Witthayalai - also joined the activity.

At the event, a "selfie" contest was organised to motivate students to get engaged in environmental protection. The contestants were required to submit a selfie photo also featuring Bangkok's environment.

"I want to raise awareness and change people's attitude towards the concept of nature and climate change as, in the end, humans are to benefit the most," said Krongkrew Macram, a student from Watsungwej School, who won first prize in the contest.

Chonna Raksapan, who was awarded third prize, explained why she chose to feature a polluted canal in her photo.

"It is the canal where I walk by every day. The canal has been left in such a [bad] condition for years. That is why I opted for that place, particularly to underscore the urgent need to improve the water condition," she said.

At the same event, students engaged in activities related to the issue of climate change such as a sand art show and a video presentation on 60 solutions for climate change.

"I've learnt more about the impact of climate change on our daily life," said Sitigorn Ser-jime, a student from Chaopraya Wittayakom School.

The French ambassador highlighted the need for the participation of all stakeholders, from local levels to the national level, in the move to curb environmental degradation. "As a world citizen, climate change is a matter that transcends borders, affecting every walk of life," said Viteau.

He said similar activities had been held at other universities in Bangkok and other provinces such as Kasetsart University in the capital and Naresuan University in Phitsanulok.

This is part of the campaign to raise awareness on the issue, Viteau told The Sunday Nation.

EU minister-counsellor Ragher emphasised the need for people in general to be aware of the issues of climate change, the sole purpose of the EU's "climate diplomacy".

"I've learnt more about the impact of climate change on our daily life," said Sitigorn Ser-jime, a student from Chaopraya Wittayakom School."

Of course you are unaware that you have been indoctrinated by people who you think know more than you do and whose biggest claim to being experts is to quote each other.

Next week the schools will have another brainwashing/indoctrination called "Buddhist Appreciation Week" where you will be brainwashed into believing another fairy tale. Children are just too impressionable and unfortunately it sticks with them for life.

Not one of these people has the slightest clue whether what they are happily agreeing on is true but as long as they are part of the "right group" and pat each other on the back wai a lot they are extremely proud of themselves.

Poor kids. What a joke.

Cheers

The biggest cause of warming is all the hot air from the warmist crowd. Warming is a normal cycle just like cooling. But I guess if it turns you on, believe what you like. Just be careful of putting your bumper stickers philosophies on your car as they are a bugger to get off when the scam gets busted.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Beat me to the punch to use the word 'indoctrinated'. That was the first thing that came to my mind.

Since "children are (just too) impressionable", climate change is a great topic to impress upon them. It's there future world. Us old dogs will all be gone.

Hopefully by teaching them now, little steps will be taken to halt climate change as they enter the adult world, where they might decide to take bigger steps.

The solution to climate change problems is to remove all the humans from the equation.....oh wait a minute, there is a down side to that!

Climate change will occur despite any human actions. There are some impacts from forest degradation, pollution from domestic and industrial processes for sure, but in the world of the future hopefully solutions will be found.

What could be done here? Firstly reduce the number of plastic bags being used. Yet I see no campaign for that. Reduce the number of polluting vehicles on the road...not happening.

Thai students, did they tell you at the event that your country, Thailand, Thailand releases far less carbon dioxide (on a per person level) than the USA ?

All this talk about lets get together to beat climate change is a bit silly. There are loads of countries who produce far more carbon dioxide (on a per person basis) than Thailand, those countries should clean up their act first. The USA produces about four times more than Thailand on a per person basis.

Does the "man made global climate change" crowd ever consider the fact that the sun with its sunspots is by itself a thermal dynamic system and has a huge influence on the earth's climate?
Could this also explain the many climate changes before 1900?

I just want to share a good news with concerned people as I am sure the msm won't report about this:

Satellites: Earth Is Nearly In Its 21st Year Without Global Warming

“There’s been so much criticism of NOAA’s alteration of the sea surface temperature that we are really just going to have to use the University of East Anglia data,” Pat Michaels, a climate scientist with the libertarian Cato Institute, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“I don’t think that’s going to stand the test of time,” Michaels said of NOAA’s recent adjustments.

But what Michaels and others say is more problematic is the growing divergence between NOAA’s new temperature data versus satellite data and records from the UK Met Office. NOAA’s data shows significantly more warming than Met Office or satellite records.

“It’s a major problem because outside of the north polar region, the upper troposphere is supposed to warm faster than the surface,” Michaels said.

“Pretty much every projection made by our climate models for sensible weather is simply not at all trustworthy,” Michaels said.

I'm absolutely in for clean air, clean water, preservation of the environment etc. BUT there is no way, governments can prevent global climate change by more taxation.

Btw, any polution (soil, air,...) on a big scale or deforestation by big corporations can only happen under the toleration and protection of the respective local government providing them with the needed licenses or turning a blind eye on them.
