MDF or similar material cut to order (somewhere reasonably close to downtown)

Featured Replies

Need a rectangular piece cut fairly precisely as it's for mounting a mirror. The mirror shop suggested MDF but anything similar would do as long as it's not too heavy.

I'm guessing one of the mom-and-pop hardware stores along the road (Sridonchai) which runs between the moat and Panthip Plaza would have whats required. If I get no replies I'll go hunting there.

you will find the material there, but in my experience they aren't set up to cut, whole sheets only. it is called "gradaht aht" in Thai. Masonite in American. Not dificult to cut if you have tools and cheap enough to make a mistake or two.

There is a custom door and wood shop on the east side of the river over the Narawat bridge that may be able to cut you some if they have it or maybe some thin plywood.

...just came to me, a frame shop might be able to do it for you...there are many in town, try the one on

Chang Moi,

Ban Tawai has many shops that are capable of doing this. Happy to point you in the right direction.

You could be on the right track with a picture framing shop. You dont say how big the mirror is; normally just 4mm ply is sufficiant to mount a mirror but you end up buying a sheet and struggle to cut it.

Mdf would need to be 6/9mm thick even for a small mirror as its very weak so thats the wrong product.

3 or 4mm hardboard (masonite as some one (US citizen?) above referred) would be perfect for a mirror say 600x900 and you can even get that from the likes of dk books/back to school and trim it with a "stanley" knife.

MDF - Medium Density Fiberboard - is not usually used here. I don't know why, but I'm guessing at it being related to humidity. The cheap furniture you see around is made of HDF - High Density Fiberboard. Try picking up a wardrobe, you'll notice the difference.

I don't know where you can buy it, but the furniture factories in Baan Maa, Lamphun use it a lot, they will be able to tell you. Google maps coordinates - 18.558542, 99.065203
