The land seen here is believed to be being cleared so a workers camp can be constructed there.

PHUKET: -- Residents of Phuket Park in Srisoonthon yesterday (July 1) filed a complaint with the Damrongtham Centre requesting they put a stop to the construction of a Burmese worker̕s camp close to their houses.

At 11am yesterday, the group of residents, led by Yutthana Duangsuwan, met with Damrongtham Centre chief, Prapan Khanphrasang and filed a formal complaint against the construction of the camp.

Mr Yutthana told Mr Prapan: “Right now the developers are clearing an area across from our residencies to build a worker̕s camp for 300-400 labour workers.

“Residents are concern about the cleanliness and safety of the area once the camp is full of foreign workers.

“We want officials to investigate and maybe put a stop to the construction of the camp,” he said.

More than 70 people have signed a petition against the camp and they have been told by Mr Prapan that officials will be sent to investigate and will tell them to stop the construction if it found that it will bring potential harm and destruction to the area.

Residents are concern about the cleanliness and safety of the area once the camp is full of foreign workers

Is the emphasis on the word 'foreign' in that sentence? Surely, the nationality of the workers should not be of concern? whistling.gif

If this were in Europe, the words "foreign workers" would be replaced by "gypsies" or to be PC "travellers". Same NIMBY concerns and fears.
