Let's get straight to the point.

Can I exchange £5000 into Thai Baht at my local SCB branch at one time?

The only thing I can add, is that I do bank with SCB and the staff know me (not personally).

Can I expect any difficulties?

why do you expect any trouble? All you need is your passport - and bankbook, if you want to put it into your account

BUT

- you get better TT exchange rate on electronic transfer (SWIFT) than you get for banknote buy rates from your bank (Last friday e.o.b TT=52.4025, Note buy=51.57)

- you get better banknote change rate on many street exchange booth than in banks, just look around. all you need again is your passport

first, they dont want to change 50's

every note must be perfect,no pen marks ect,no creases.

make sure you have notes that are still in circalation.

and most of all you get a bad exchange rate for cash at scb.if you want to compare look at bangkok bank for cash.

worth a trip on the bus to bangkok.

That's why I'm asking mate, I've never changed that amount before so I don't know what they'll need from me or will ask me.

As for the latter part of your post, cheers, I didn't realise that the street booths would be different.

For sure I will shop around.

Thanks again.

Cheers mate, yeah, I've had a problem before with £20 notes with pen marks on. I'm also with BB so I will check them out too.

The longer the cash stays with me the less I sleep at night.

longstebe not sure where you are located but have a look at these links to compare up to date exchange rates -

The first 2 are different sites in Bangkok.

If you are in Pattaya take a walk along Soi Buakhaow and check out TT Exchange (Yellow with black lettering) and some other booths especially with a light blue signage. Also with the exchange booths for £5k pounds you should ask if they will give you a better rate then that currently displayed - and you should get it. I never had a issue with £50 notes at those booths. You will still need your passport for these.

I always use one of the big 4 exchange shops by Big C in central BKK,

There are two different shops called super rich, one called mega rich and another one whose name I forget. If you are in BKK they are a 2 min walk from big C and quite well known if you get stuck.

You will at least 1 baht more to the £ in comparison with your bank
