How to get rid of refridgerator in BKK?

was suppose to be away for 10 days, didn't actually return for more than a month, found the power had tripped. usual story, rotten food, everything smells like death....

Managed to empty the fridge, clean it pretty good but inside small crevices I'm sure it's still full of deadly bacteria I don't want to use it or give it to someone who might get sick, no garden to hose it down either.

How do I just dispose of it? Is there a number to call for someone to collect it?

I agree with jaiyenyen. Just put it out on the street. It will be gone in no time. I got rid of all my junk that way when I moved a few years ago. The "fairies" took everything, even a rusted-through old BBQ grill and a couple of old chairs with torn upholstery. The old proverb "One person's junk is another one's treasure" seems to hold true.

...do remove the doors though....

...that is the law in Canada anyway....to avoid any mishaps.....

Something similar used to be around in the UK I think, but strikes me it is based on outdated views of refridgerator design. 30 years ago they used to come with click lock handles on the outside. Maybe they still do in Canada? In the UK and Thailand domestic frdges are held close by magnetic strips - next to nil risk of kids being trapped inside.

to clean properly use baking Soda for stains and marks also White Vinegar for smell.

have to agree with jacky 54, find empty land near you and dump, or look for trash on pavement and place next to it. you will be helping some entraprenurial bkk soul. leave door on, it won't be much help otherwise.

alternative, you know how the left most lane always has cars parked in it or other obstructions, perhaps put your fridge in left hand lane, sidewayus on, just as an experiment,

Whatever you do do't dump it on empty land; I know many Thais would but no reason to follow suit.

Where I stay a guy comes round in the early hours and removes anything salvageable from the bins on the soi. Another guy with a pickup comes every 10 days or so to collect redundant electrical items; you might even get a few baht for it....

But I hate throwing stuff away that can be repaired, so best try to clean it using the methods which others have suggested, or give it to someone in need who will clean it.

Thanks MW....I have always known this but believe it or not I had actually forgotten it and had a bit of a chuckle reading your post. I myself am a bit of a "hoarder" and also get bored easily resulting in my doing a fair bit of moving. I was thinking only yesterday....the next time I move I'll need two artics....one for the stuff I'm moving and one for the stuff I'm dumping. Wouldn't it be great if us foreigners could have a "garage" sale every now and then. Now, after reading your post....I can eliminate one artic....if I was a drinker I'd buy you a drink. (I know what your thinking....my not drinking doesn't stop you from drinking,... but that never occurred to me).

No need to carry it out of the house, tell it all your money is finished right before you go to bed. It will be gone in the morning..

Rather than leave it to the itinerant 'fairies', you might ask your security guards or any of the caretakers who hang around your condo. They are often overlooked when farangs dispose of their 'treasure'. They all have families and will surely be grateful for such a valuable gift. I old clothes, shoes etc are also well received. Charity starts at home !!

You can bring all stuff that's not needed anymore to the mirror foundation. There is a branch near our home. I'm not sure, but I think they have more branches. They recycle and sell all stuff and the money goes to charity. So you got rid of it and can help other people. We brought loads of stuff there, most in almost new condition actually.

Try warm water, 2 tbs dettol with 1 small bottle vanilla essence, slosh it around, put a fan in the open door, 24 hours good as new

well nearly

It is still possible for a "vacuum" effect to keep a small child from being able to open that door!

Either tape/glue something on to prevent it from completely closing, or remove it.

Same here. Periodically a truck rolls around looking for anything made of metal. They salvage it. They will take your name and address and send you a percentage of the value they get for it. I always tell them to keep that money (usually only 100 to 200 baht), and they are quite pleased.

I am sure a neighbor can give you a phone number so you can call them and ask them to come around.

Brilliant!! (still laughing)

If only this worked for the cockroaches!

Or maybe it is just the male cockroaches that are still hanging around...

And from time to time, the fairies explode.

But in Thailand you do not have to move into a refrigerator to warm up. whistling.gif

But in this case he is leaving for recycle collector rather than in empty field where it would stay and pose a danger to children.

There are refrigerator shops around town that I am sure could clean for a very low fee. It can be done and is not that hard - been there.

Should work for the male roaches too, the whole family normally follows the female so they can start milking the next Farang.. whistling.gif
