What I find really strange is the endless posts- " oh no they can't run a country " really just Thai bashing.

What the hell has it got to do with you? You have no influence here , can't vote etc etc.

I am beginning to realise that probably 90% of TV members don't actually live here - just spouting venom from Kansas .

So just be quiet , and let this country that some of us have a real affection for find its own way - it takes time and a few mistakes along the way.

This news should be directed to accommodation owners rather than to expats although having said that, it probably already has.

A useless piece of news.

Enjoy.

Good post hathairat2711 and you are absolutely correct.

Accommodation owners are required to have the guest's passport number, their TM6 Thai departure card number, the guest's length of stay and finally the guest's domicile address in their respective country of residence.

I haven't been to Phuket in years now but back then the resort owners just handed 'unsuspecting farung' extra charges for things like this..they never took any responsibility and they already had your credit card! Oh and did I say I haven't been back in years!

I live here, have for 15 years. Affection includes pointing out when one you care for does stupid things. Otherwise might just call it indulgence. We want Thailand to be a better place. Given some of the actions by those in power that seem lacking in logic, sanity, follow through, need..... you name it.... well, frustration over what could be compared to what is sets in..... a few mistakes, sure, but mistakes so across the board seem to indicate a marked deficit in intelligence. And I am sure there are plenty of intelligent Thais. So we ask "why are these people allowed to make such stupid policy?" I am sure plenty of reasons could be given

Idiots - they really are dumber than dumb... which is probably why im still here.... lets be thankful they are mentally challenged

They really have no idea about how to run a country or efficiency. The only thing they can do is create mountains of red tape.

8,000 Baht, about the same penalty as causing death in a vehicle accident. Thailand is in for a real shock when Asia opens up it borders.

Actually the pick-up driver was fined 1,000b for killing the two British RTW cyclists.

As for the actual story, must be April Fool's day.

It is off topic but If you are a Thai yes then it could be very well 8000 baht, but if you are a Farang no way you get away with that amount....

I think the fine for not registering a guest within a given period is rather steep.

Sorry if off topic, but I know Thai's who've been done for drink driving. (No accidents / deaths / etc) 20,000B+)

I must have misunderstood. I can't understand all the fuss. It has nothing to do with me, the tourist. It's for the guest houses and hotels. In CM my GH photocopies my passport and then it is their problem. In the old days the cops came round regularly to collect.

I remember years ago it was like that in Europe. I am thinking of Sweden and France in particular. If you were not in a hotel then it was up to the person to declare themselves. I didn't in Sweden and got myself landed with a charge of spying (for the Russkis)

The OP is all about Phuket - does this apply to other areas? I think YES

Does the whole of Thailand need to use the Puket URL? I think NO (See the TM30 form below)

Whilst some are pointing out that this applies to the owner of hotels, guest houses etc,

remember that it also applies to a Thai wife when her Farang husband stays in her house.

I suppose that if a Farang owns a condo, then he/she should also make the report?

There is a downloadable form TM30.doc [EDIT: Sorry it is a PDF now but essentially the same as the old .doc] on the Thai Visa Forum and it is headed:-

แบบการแจ้งรับคนต่างด้าวเข้าพักอาศัย สำหรับเจ้าบ้าน เจ้าของ หรือผู้ครอบครองเคหะสถาน

NOTIFICATION FROM FOR HOUSE-MASTER, OWNER OR THE POSSESSOR OF THE RESIDENCE

WHERE ALIEN HAS STAYED

Forms can be found here:- http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/files/category/6-thai-immigration-application-forms/

I checked with my local Immigration in Samut Sakhon and my wife must make the report every time we stay in "her" house.

What other countries do this?

So if one is travelling around and visiting friends?

It's just crap, their whole sickening approach to the presence of foreigners.

Really, who does this benefit, apart from the useless rubber stampers?

Bloody hell, the Philippines are looking better every day.

1. None of this "90 day reporting" nonsense.

2. The equivalent of 500,000 Baht instead of 800,000 in the bank for retirement visa

3. Access to the money after 6 months to do whatever you like with it, provided it is used in the Philippines: open a business, invest in whatever else, including the purchase of land to build a house ...

4. Once you have the visa, you have it for life, and are free to come and go as if it were your home country.

Hey, now THAT sounds like a retirement visa .. Real retirement.

People having to report your presence if staying overnight?? .. go shove it.

How long ago was that reporting in Sweden? It must have been during the tense years of the Cold War. I've been staying at various places all over Scandinavia since the 1980s and never encountered such a thing, or even heard anyone mention it. Places I stayed were in regions of Norway, Sweden and Finland with Russian borders.

well, that will be a great stimulus for the influx of tourists & their money

"Hotel and other accommodation owners in Phuket who fail to comply with the requirement to register foreign guests ..."

Why would the "influx" of tourist be influenced by fines charged to resort or hotel owners?

You're using logic again.

Wait....hey up....suradit puts on his rose-coloured specs again. What a goody goody. Bet you used to snitch on all your mates when you were at school.

He just happens to be exactly right in what he says.......................wink.png

Lot of people jumping at the headline thinking it is going to affect them personally. Unless you are the owner of a hotel, resort or premises that offers accommodation, move along please, nothing to see here.

If you think that sounds good, perhaps you should check out Vietnam - even easier.

No 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Just a never ending tourist visa, and if you marry a Vietnamese National, you simply get a 5 year multi-entry marriage visa.

If accommodation owners cop an B 8000 fine for failing to comply they will recoup their loss by raising room rates.

This could influence future tourists from coming.

They never think this stuff through do they.

What then if you book accommodation via Airbnb?

Please describe the non-intrusive measures you would take to track foreign travellers who may have contracted communicable diseases and who are unlikely to respond to public service announcements. Be as specific as possible.

For extra points, include any grammatically correct English language sentence that includes the words "what", "then" and "if" in sequence.

Didn't think so.

Conclusion - you didn't really think it through.

So, it's all about "communicable diseases" is it, of which, Thailand has more inside its boarders being taken out, rather than outside its boarders being bought in.

I guess you "didn't really think your post through" - or is that "threw?" biggrin.png

Right, the short-term boarders within Thai borders. The ones that might have been on the flight with the Omani MERS dude for example.

I would say yes, it is about that sort of thing. Tracking folks on flights that may have been exposed to disease. Figuring out where people are or what happened to them when overseas relatives report them missing. Various other safety precautions that benefit the peeps passing throo on holiday.

Why else would they bother? Why have immigration decided to do the extra work? Not busy enough already?

And, of course, no sex tourist would ever catch a "comunicable disease" in Thailand and take it back to their home country, would they????

Wake up.

It's not about stopping disease entering Thailand.

"Why have immigration decided to do the extra work?" - if they are actually doing "the extra work" - for the bribe money, or keeping themselves in a job, or the 8000 baht fine. What did you think, it's for the benefit of the country?

Hey, hey all readers, especially "livinginkata" and "michael8511" ;-)

The laws says accommodation owners have to register their guests!!!

This means ALL(!), read all, that stays in your home, hotel, car or whatever!

Dosen´t matter if paying or not, ALL(!) have to be registered within 24 hours!

Dear readers, this stupid law have been for years, but still as stupid.

Now they found out that Internet exist, before the rule was to fax(!) the important info every night to a Bangkok number.

So don´t forget to register your wife, lover, gay friend, bar girl, kids or just relatives within 24 hours, and every night, because this might end up in a heavy fine.

This law is valid in all Thailand, just so you know.

This is no-news really, but i do smell a rat that are looking at new income sources, since tourism is down. As always when low season.

I stay in a condo, and a few years ago i went to Jomtien Immigration to do this registration as i checked the rules...

they just laughed and said mai pen rai, no need...

never done it since.

if this crap is true, they are just looking for new money........

Exactly.

Just a new extortion on an old law.

so staying at a guesthouse in a remote location without internet....the guest house owner is expected to travel to the nearest police station or to the nearest immigration office?

Could be costly for many thai hotels owners.

Posted

This is for hotel, resorts and private persons that rent out a condo etc. have nothing to do with the tourist them selfs. No need for you guys to have a titi attack over this nonsense that will not affect you in any way unless you rent out your space or run a hotel/motel/resort. This is nothing new even the U.S. Embassy ask you to give them your contact information incl phone and accommodation.

You're just making this BS up.
