StreetCowboy
Why do we read threads that are obviously going to upset us? I know it's not just me - several times I read something along the lines of "... I knew from the title of the OP that this would be a thread I found objectionable..." - so why read it? Likewise, I often can't refrain from posting, and I am cursed with a thread full of bile in my "Recent Threads" page. Is it natural pugnaciousness? The desire to convince all the unbelievers that our view is right and theirs is wrong - can anyone give a single example of where that has occurred on the internet? Masochism? SoiBiker
To be frank, the obvious response would be to ignore the entire place. But I don't want to cede the online expat world to the kind of people who dominate this forum. I'd like people to get the impression that there's more to Thailand than that. There's fewer negative threads in the Cycling forum, if you want to put your pedals where your mouth is (safety hazards excepted...), or, apparently, the other specialist fora. sipi
It's downright depressing seeing good threads getting thrashed time after time. I still come here to catch up on things. You never see this on other (non-Thai related) forums.

SoiBiker
I think it's wrong to simply avoid points of view that differ from yours. Too many people here are already painfully unaware that there are opinions other than theirs.

pgrahmm
Dunno.... Was in Makro today and a Thai guy was in limbo crossways in the frozen section aisle.....I had a few choices - I could've gone and banged my cart against his, or rolled up with a loud ahem and bulled through.....Or I could have turned around and gone the length of the aisle leaving him unperturbed in his shopping revelry - which is what I did...... TV posters are alot like that.....Some want to bash just for the sake of striking out.....Some want to make their importance felt.... Aside from the fact that the site is getting much less user friendly to navigate - some just have to vent rather than articulate and contribute.... Maybe sometimes it's a guilty pleasure to try and figure out who's going to get the @$$ of the day award - and it always goes ti a handfull of people......They know who they are and they know what they do...... If a discussion takes place I've seen people asked if they are on TVF.....The overwhelming response is "used too - too much negativity/bickering/baiting" - which is a shame because those were probably good folks...... That leaves us with the rest - the cocophony of discordant personalities......
villagefarang
I don’t see the choice as being between pugnacious or masochistic. One doesn’t need to confront those posters directly. Just craft a reasonable, thoughtful post and try to raise the level of discussion. I am not yet willing to completely surrender this place to the trolls and bullies. faraday
I always try & post on here as if I was physically in front of the person, & therefore 'speak' respectfully when expressing an opinion. It just confounds me though, when I see some of the insults & sleights that some members throw at each other, over seemingly trivial points. I think that most of us are over 40 on here, & some are much older like I am. It seems that some though despite being of this more mature age a few just want to continue their juvenile urinating contests, that they most probably had when younger. Never mind, it's only the Internet. Edited July 10, 2015 by faraday

SoiBiker
This place should be for anyone who lives in or is interested in living in Thailand, regardless of what they do, who they're married to, etc etc. It shouldn't be a club house for a certain kind of expat.
