Bangladeshi boy, 13, beaten to death: Killer caught in Jeddah

SINGAPORE: -- Amid a firestorm of public outrage over the gruesome murder of 13-year-old Rajon, the Bangladeshi community in Saudi Arabia has helped police catch the man who was seen most active in beating the kid in a widely circulated video.

Saudi police detained Kamrul Islam in a suburb of Jeddah yesterday, two days after he left the country. He and some other brutes bludgeoned Rajon to death in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet on the morning of July 8.

The boy died of brain haemorrhage; his body bore around 64 injury marks, according to an autopsy report.

The savage torture on Rajon sparked fury also among the Bangladeshi migrants in the kingdom, said Md Altaf Hossain, first secretary (labour) at Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah.

"Members of the Bangladeshi community here identified him [Kamrul] and contacted us. Then the Saudi police arrested him based on our information," he told The Daily Star over the phone yesterday evening.

Im against the death penalty but I wouldnt mind if this Kamrul animal becomes dispatched to hell ASAP.

Might be one of the days they don't bother putting too much effort into sharpening the sword.

If they do end up giving him a death sentence I'll bet it won't take 30 years for them to finally get around to carrying it out.

They beat him with an iron bar for 30 minutes and laughed while they did it.

When they arrested the one in Jeddeh he cryed.

There were about 6 men involved and the sentence should be 50 lashes every day for a year followed by beheading with a blunt knife.

What compels a human being to want to inflict punishment of this sort on another? A rather twisted set of morals and ethics or the complete lack thereof. Saudi society has to take some responsibility for this. That area is morally bankrupt so it would seem. If only they took their spirituality seriously, instead of many, but not all, only mouthing the words and bowing in insincere prayer.

Why does Saudi society have to take any responsibility for this?

The young man was murdered in Bangladesh by Bangladeshi's, one of which fled to Saudi Arabia on a legal visa.

The Bangladeshi community in Saudi located him and asked the Saudi authorities to arrest him. The Jeddah authorities did so and are holding him for probable deportation to Bangladesh.

The Saudi authorities have only performed their jobs in this matter.
