So I managed to get a marriage certificate in the USA and get legally married to my Thai Wife quite easily, however, now having gone to the Amphur in Phuket they are insisting I go to Bangkok to get a certified translations of my marriage certificate copy in order to recognize our marriage in Thailand.

Anyone else have real experience with this? I dont have our original marriage license from USA, just a good scanned copy. If I fly to Bangkok to get it translated and notarized I want to make sure everything is done correctly/

The only reason most people register here is to obtain extensions of stay from immigration - do not believe it is required for daily living as you indeed are married. But if you need to record believe you first must obtain official copy from State you were married in (but I was married here so never had to do that). Below link may be a start point.

Moved to here.

The Amphoe will also want the marriage certificate certified. But they will accept a self certification done by doing an affidavit at the embassy. But you could also do it on the 24th at the American citizen services outreach in Phuket see http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/consular_outreach_phuket_072415.html

After you have the certification affidavit done you will need it and the marriage certificate translated to Thai and the translation certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I am sure that you can find a translation service in Phuket the can get the MFA certification done without you needing to make the trip to Bangkok.

I think the Amphoe will also want to see the original marriage certificate also or at the least a certified copy. You will certainly need the original if you want to do anything with immigration or at an embassy or consulate for a visa.
