Afternoon all,

OK, I used to live in Thailand and accessed Facebook no probs on my laptop. I moved to Vietnam where I had to use a vpn/proxy thingy to access it. Now back in Thailand and I still have to use the vpn/proxy thingy to access Facebook on the laptop.

I have changed every setting that I can find in Chrome and Facebook to "Thailand", but all to no avail.

Any clues ?

Thanks

What ISP and connection type are you using (asdl, cable, fiber, 3G)?

What message are you getting when you try to connect to Facebook?

I connect through the wifi at the apartment block, but it has been the same in the 4 places I have lived since moving back.

The message on the page is ;

his webpage is not available
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

Google Chrome could not load the webpage because www.facebook.com took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.
Check your Internet connection
Check any cables and reboot any routers, modems, or other network devices you may be using.
Allow Chrome to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings.
If it is already listed as a program allowed to access the network, try removing it from the list and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server...
Check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server: Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings... > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect "Use a proxy server for your LAN".

Can you give me a broader example of what common websites you can or cannot connect to with the VPN is disabled?

Is it just FaceBook, or are other websites similarly affected, Google News, ThaiVisa, BBC News - Asia, etc...

Also, if on a Windows machine, have you tried the "Troubleshoot Problems" option to see if the wizard can spot a misconfiguration option?

It's possible that some locations that provide free Internet will block certain URLs to curtail competition or undue traffic congestion, but doubtful all them are doing it, and especially with FaceBook.

Thanks, I will try the trouble shoot option.

As for which sites, it is just Facebook, everything else (that is not censored) is fine.

Try Pinging the site.

CMD

ping www.facebook.com

ping www.google.com

ping www.thaivisa.com

If the ping returns 31.13.79.246 then try another browser to check if access is possible.
