New_triton_auto_express.jpg

Just a few weeks prior to its official market introduction in Europe, the all-new5th * one-ton pick-up truck starts its career in the region with acclaim after being named “Pick-Up of the Year” for 2015 by UK’s leading automobile weekly, AUTO EXPRESS.

A strategic core model for Mitsubishi Motors Corporation with a global sales target of 200,000 units/year in 150 countries, the all-new L200* is the first of a new generation of one-ton pickup trucks, taking the whole segment into a new and more technically-advanced direction (engine technology, low CO2 emissions, aerodynamics, weight reduction, active safety,...) yet also bringing accommodation, comfort, equipment and perceived quality to SUV levels.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors UK take special pride in this award as it is granted in L200’s largest (and most competitive) market in Europe where it ranks # 2 in the segment: “This award provides us with the perfect springboard for building momentum ahead of the launch in the UK later in the year and really underlines how the L200* is set to take the pick-up market by storm.”

what was the competition in this "Pickup of the year" category ?

A fairly big list (bigger than the TH range), but judged against the old versions of the Navara, Hilux and Ranger.

If you can ignore that front grille for a moment and actually drive it, you'll see why it was able to best this particular field ;)

Best handling pickup i'm my opinion and more of a car driving experience. Owned 2 and previously owned a toyota which felt more solid in terms of interior and how it was put together, but for off road mits was much better as was the Pajero I owned compared to the Fortuna with its 4WD system.

Having said that, I wouldn't buy a Mits this time round. I'm in the market for a pickup but neither the Mits or Toyota are on my list.

I hope this new era of flamboyant grills is a passing fad. Whatever happened to the 1950's? LOL.

Stream lining of the 1950 grill ?

So you want real chrome and not plastic laugh.png

The old model felt like it was made out of tin cans, hopefully they used standard thickness steel for the new one.

Well, I've got the "old model" a 2014, and it certainly doesn't feel like that to me. I had a 2006 Isuzu D Max previously and the Triton feels just as sturdy.

I looked at the Isuzu (overpriced), Mitsu (felt cheap), Toyota (yawn), Nissan (too ugly) and the Ford about 8 years ago. I ended up buying a Wildtrak and haven"t regretted it once.

I've owned the Triton for 7 months and haven't regretted it either. So we're both happy OK, no need to try and put sh*t on another brand because you think you have a better pickup. You don't. When the Wildtrak wins Pickup of the year, maybe then you'll have some bragging rights.

Apologies. I though forums were for exchanging ideas and experiences.

They are, but there's no need to badmouth every other brand just because you opted for a Wildtrak.

Sorry.

"In my opinion the Triton was cheap and tinny, but they're really great actually!"

Is that better for you?

I won't tell you what I think of the Wildtrak, because it's just an opinion not a fact. Do you know the difference? I think that the fact that the Mitsubishi won pickup of the year must have got right up your nose.thumbsup.gif

I was only wondering how they made it lighter than the previous model as they already use thin sheet metal and lightweight brittle plastic.

Titanium. Did I mention that the Mitsubishi won Pickup Of The Year?

I also owned the triton and the Pajero sport both 3.2 4x4 and agree they were not great inside but a solid drive offroad (farm and red dirt roads) better than the Toyota Hilux. Currently driving a 2014 Isuzu V-Cross and will stick with this one for a few years yet.

Follows a similar theme here in this Australian review comparing Triton, BT50, & Navara. Triton maybe not absolute best at anything in particular, but pretty good at everything.

Nice to see a relevant post while most of the thread seems to be a debate comparing qualities of 10 year old pick up trucks.

Interesting to see that the new navara's spring rear suspension that we are not allowed to get in Thailand is actually not that great.

It is the only competitor here not to employ leaf-spring rear suspension, instead boasting five-link coil sprung rear suspension that feels the smoothest of the three vehicles tested, taking the edge out of B-grade country roads. However the new set-up is far from perfect, because while the rear is softer, the front suspension is still quite firm in nature. The skewed set-up creates a tendency for the Navara to skip over bumps, especially through corners. The front-rear mismatch is accentuated with a 700kg load in the rear. The softer coil springs squat under weight, to the point where the rubber bump stops are touching the chassis rails when stationary. The rear sag causes the vehicle to fidget and even wallow through large elevation changes under weight, unlike the leaf-sprung BT-50 and Triton, which both feel decidedly more stable.

Agreed. I had the Mits Animal L200 in the UK and then bought a 2wd triton before changing to a Pajero 3.2. Did lots of off road and was much better at it than my previous toyota. As you said, the plastic interior is a letdown.

I'm not sure what all this talk about the cheap plastic interior of the Triton is about. Sure there is liberal use of plastics on the dash and console, but what do other pickups have, walnut and leather? I have owned mine for around 7 months and have no gripe about the interior at all.

No, it's the first car or pickup I've ever owned. Instead of acting like a smart arse, why don't you tell me what the difference is.

What for? according to you, you shopped around before you settled for your pride and joy.

No doubt you saw the difference? But then again, yours was the cheapest, so may be you did not

Anyhow, enjoy, its just the bestthumbsup.gif

Yeah, as I thought, just another loud mouth who tries to act superior, but is only hot air. I won't bother telling you the comparisons I made, it would be a waste of time.

Yes all other pick ups I have owned in Thailand including the current VCross are all pretty sh*t inside but thats not the main reason I bought it, its was because of the 4x4 and used for offroad and farm work and being the top model I have owned with all 3 pick ups I would have expected a little bit more with the interior given its the top of the line models. Only my opinion based on owning a 2008 Triton,2011 Hilux and 2014 Vcross. If your happy withthe interior of your triton then thats all that matters. I do like the look of the new mitsu but will stick with the isuzu for just now.
