Next Saturday 1st August, being the first Saturday of the month, sees us revisiting Outside Inn as the base for our 81st run.

The run will be out along and near the northside of the river Mun east of Ubon town centre. Come and marvel at the scale of embankment reinforcement going on all along that river these days. We will probably take in a bit of a brand new (as in this month new) walkway.

We'll start the 'run' (or possibly short car ride from there) from Outside Inn - rapidly becoming an "old favourite", is it really only three years since Brent and Tun opened their doors. Still #1 of 44 B&Bs in Ubon per Trip Advisor and still serving excellent Mexican food. The normal run fee will provide for some 'free' Mexican snacks at circle time. There will no doubt be a beer stop and a circle at the run end and back at Outside Inn.

So meet up at Outside Inn prior to a prompt 4pm start. I will also pick up from N-Joy at 3:30pm. Afters could involve more food/drink at Outside Inn and could later involve a Wrong Way visit, where it is Ting's monthly buffet night. Outside Inn is along Suriyat Road east of Ubon town centre, 200 meters short of that road's eastern end; more on directions at

The weather is a lot cooler now than the last two runs, so no excuses ('Yorkshire Bob') - be there.

PS: Anyone staying in Ubon, note that it will have been Ubon Candle festival two days prior. Agoda says there is still a fair bit of accommodation around Ubon on Saturday night (rarer than hen's teeth before that) though your choices may be limited if you leave it late for booking.

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few experienced hashers and wanabee enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. Most walk. Non-running social members who like to drink beer rather than take any exercise are welcome provided they pay the hash fee and don't drink all the beer while the rest of us are out on trail!

A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flour/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. We are a family hash so other-halves and kids are welcome. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (250B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais and under-17's - and that includes free beer after, and often during, the run
