Moms can register to receive new-born subsidy from Sep

BANGKOK, 25 July 2015 (NNT) – The government is set to provide pre-registration for mothers to access the new-born subsidy on 1 September 2015, while the subsidy program will begin in October.

The Prime Minister’s Office Deputy Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd has revealed the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered officials in all related agencies to publicize the new-born children subsidy campaign among pregnant mothers in poor families, so that they are aware of their rights to claim the government's 400 baht monthly subsidy.

Eligible mothers, including women with pregnancy, can register by 1 September 2015 to claim their benefits in October. This subsidy aims to provide mothers valuable time with their new-born infants.

The Prime Minister also reportedly thanked operational officials, and the Family Doctor teams from the Ministry of Public Health, who were the first unit that was responsible in taking care of the mothers and children in this campaign.

He has also asked officials in all units to review their operational procedures for maximum efficiency, and to give their best effort towards this program, as the policy is considered an important part in the creation of the nation’s human resources.

The PMO’s Deputy Spokesman has further said that the new-born children subsidy campaign will provide 400 baht monthly subsidy for children being born from 1 October 2015 to 30 September 2016 to poor families, to encourage better healthcare access for new-born children.

The cabinet has approved an initial budget of 600 million baht for this subsidy program.

Sounds like an excellent idea, now they just need to keep all those not eligible well away from the scheme. Money for free will bring out all the scam artists trying to screw the system.

We have the "rice scam" the "rail scam" the "sub scam" and now the baby scam.....

Of course its a good thing, but how is this not at the same time a populist policy ?

Add to that the claim the baht healthcare system isnt affordable it makes little sense.

Be better off giving children free vitamins, medicine and healthcare... Yes I know it costs more but thats what would help child health, not 400 bht for dad to get a few more bottles of lao khao

BANGKOK: -- THE government has prepared Bt600 million to pay a childcare subsidy for poor mothers of children born from October 1 and urged related agencies and officials to review all steps for clarity and accuracy in this scheme. Under this subsidy project, mothers will get Bt400 a month until their child is one year old.

Deputy government spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd yesterday urged mothers, who are poor and due to deliver from October 1 till September 30 next year, to register for the childcare subsidy from September 1. They do not have to wait until giving birth.

There are free vaccines already, same schedule as the UK plus a few more.

This is going to cost a little more than the free bus and train program, to be scrapped the same time as this starts. Question is, which is a better use of the money.

I am already getting this as part of the ss system via wife. Plus free health care and vaccinations (up to age 6). So i assume this is for those outside of the system which would be the lowest household earners in the country. In which case it could very well provide enough, if used correctly, of some vof the very basic necessities. Not sure of all regions but our GP always asked us if we wanted baby food (enfamil, etc) on each visit, no charge. We would take a couple of boxes and hand out around the village.
