Krabi in early May with family

Recommended Posts

Thinking of flying down to Krabi the first week of May with our two boys,4 & 9 years old. A little bit concerned as I've been reading that Krabi isn't as nice as it was and also there is some coal plant that might be built.

Wanted to get some views from members who live there on the following:

Which area to stay with young children

Recommended mid range hotels

I've read quite a few threads which say May is the start of the rainy season but hopefully the first week won't be too bad.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

May ? now it's still July...... 10 months to go....

May is super-low-season and usually the rainy season has not started yet.

But expect Ten-Thousands of Chinese to occupy the beaches even during that time and bringing with them their very own understanding of "civilized behaviour"

The rainy or monsoon season only starts end of June. May is the hottest month of the year. You best stay in Ao Nang with your boys. The coal power plant won't affect you, as it is not yet built, if it ever will be built. We still have hope.

Yep, I like having something to look forward to

This year it started raining in April but the real rain did not start until end of May.

The coal power station will take years to build (if ever).

Krabi Homestay can accommodate you and your children in one room and that is very close to the beaches but still quite quiet.

A lot of Mosquitos at that time of year so get some good repellant.

Any recommendations about what resort/beach/ town to stay at and any hotels in particular?

Don't need luxury happy to go mid or lower price.

Was planning to stay 7 nights so was thinking of breaking up the stay into two places.

A friend of mine really likes the Srisukant Resort as it's right across the street from Hat Napparat (great long beach and entrance to the marine national park) as it has large rooms and a really nice pool. Also, across the street are Thai seafood restaurants. You can walk or grab a tuk-tuk into Ao Nang.

After a few nights there you might consider heading to Koh Lanta. Stay on Khlong Dao beach or in Kantiang, you can use Agoda for that one as there are many accommodations.

Can anyone recommend where to stay in Krabi town for 1 night. Need somewhere to stay just to sleep whilst we await family to,arrive the next day, clean is fine cheap to mid price but convenient.

Also interested in hiring a car whilst out there, can anyone recommend where to hire one from or just the big 4?

Koh Lanta that a member recommended looks a good place to go for a couple of days, but where else for 3 nights on the mainland Ao Nang and then go to Railay beach for a day?

Recommendations most welcome, we are a party of 4 adults and 2 kids, should we try to get an apartment or just stick with hotels? Is a car essential?

Hollywood Hotel, inexpensive and central. Out the door hang a left to head to the river seafood, across the street and up about one KM a restaurant that is a number, I can't remember, 99 restaurant or something like that, menu is on the walls great food and super cheap, I think I posted it in the restaurants Krabi a year or two ago.

Can't help you with car hire, not certain it's essential, pretty good songthaew situation airport to Ao Nang, Krabi Town-Ao Nang, just have to flag it when you see it, a pickup truck with bench seats.

Ao Nang, J hotel, ask for a view room, put the kids on the other side of the hall. Inexpensive and spitting distance to where you get the boat to Railei.

31 restaurant, post #105 in the restaurants Krabi pinned. Great food, definite lunch spot.

Flights booked for 5 nights now just need to decide where to stay. As we have two young boys I domt really want to go on long transfers although Koh Lanta did appeal before I found out it takes 3+ hours to get there.

Any recommendations on places to stay, can stay at 1 or 2 diffent places max as only there 5 nights.

Srisukant Resort. Kids will love the pool, you are directly across the street from Hat Napparat and some seafood restaurants as well as daytrip boats to Railei or other nearby islands. Not far walking or tuk-tuking into Ao Nang, although you don't really need to go that direction. Opposite direction Marine National park, right there at the entrance some really great Thai BBQ restaurants, better and more reasonable than Ao Nang.

Buddy of mine stays at Srisukant with 9 year old son and Thai wife, loves it.

Reason for edit: sorry I see this is duplicate to #7
