BANGKOK: -- The government is improving legal procedures for faster prosecution of human trafficking and related cases as recommended by the United States' "Trafficking in Persons" report, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam said yesterday.

On August 10, human trafficking, drugs and corruption cases will get their own dedicated section at the Criminal Court.

Trafficking had been mired in other criminal litigation such as migrant labour cases, which caused confusion in prosecution, he said.

The appeal process might be speeded up by stopping at the Appeals Court, rather than going all the way to the Supreme Court. Usually, criminal cases ended only after the verdict of the Supreme Court.

"I have a draft to amend the trafficking law to allow appeals to the Supreme Court only if it's necessary," he said.

"If the case is not so complicated and can be completed at the Appeals Court, there would be no need to require the consideration of the Supreme Court," he said.

Currently, trafficking is a criminal case. Public prosecutors would take time to pursue a conviction.

So they are using other criminal activity to delay the trafficking crimes and prosecution and claim its confusing the attorney prosecuting the case.. This is by far the most idiotic claim possible as everyone knows you can take someone to court on one case then try them for another later on. Sounds like double talk a lawyer would give as an excuse only
