The TT exchange booths around town (yellow and black signs) give a rate that's usually as good as or better than anywhere else. The bigger ones have a walk-in section as you want. I live in the South Pattaya/Jomtien area and the branches near Dongtan Beach police box and the one at the Beach Road end of Soi 5 both have this. I'm sure you'll be able to find a similar branch in town without too much trouble if that's more convenient.

take a walk along Soi Buakhaow and check out TT Exchange (Yellow with black lettering) and some other booths especially with a light blue signage. Also with the exchange booths for £5k pounds you should ask if they will give you a better rate then that currently displayed - and you should get it. I never had a issue with £50 notes at those booths. You will still need your passport for these.

This was taken from a thread I started.

Since a while (maybe 3 weeks or so) TT has notes at the window stating that a passport is required.

No idea whether it is now enforced (the requirement is not really new, other booths always had this printed on their walls).

I have no need to change money, so have no recent experience.

That is a good "Tip" ......I have changed similar amounts and didn't occur to me that they would give a better rate

Thanks

Even 3/4k $ or GBP you should get better than the "window" rate. If one booth wont another will but sometimes you have to press them to ask their boss.

The Yenjit offices usually have a very good rate

and will not annoy you because you have small notes or notes far to be new.

Yenjit site: http://www.yjpattayaexchange.com/4.html

Visit their Galery to see their offices in Walking Street, Soi Buakhao, Pattaya Klang, Jomtien ...

In my experience, Yenjit is never as good as TT.

To the OP: Like the previous poster says make sure the girl calls her boss at TT before giving you a quote and you will certainly get a better rate than that posted if you are changing a tidy sum.

Hope this helps.

Lots of posts here about this. A quick search will give you all the answers you need.

How difficult is it to just answer the question? Why do people post answers like this? Am I the only one who finds them annoying?

TT Exchange booths always give the best rates and they are all over town now and it seems they are opening new ones everyday. They are bright yellow. I've never seen another money changer give better rates. A really good one is on the right side of 2nd Road just after you leave the Pattaya Tai intersection. It's like a bank inside, so there's no need to count your money on the street if you're shy about that. They are also a very convenient place to buy any of the common foreign currencies.

There's a money changer on the left side next to a 7Eleven when coming into Cosy Beach which gives nearly the same rates as TT.

If your notes (bills) have writing on them, you won't get them changed. Some clown penned a moustache on Lord Florey on the front side of one of my Australian $50 notes and no one would change it LOL.

Yesterday evening ~9pm :

- TT (Beach Rd) : USD 35.03 , EUR : 38.30

- YJ (Walking St): USD 35.04 , EUR : 38.31 wink.png

Some places give better rates than others depending on the currency. TT rates for all currencies are pretty well top of the line in Pattaya.

However, there is place on third road, west side, about 300m north of Pattay Klang, that gives better rates for CAD$ than TT, recent differential for CAD$ was 26.48 at TT, this place was 26.55b I have heard there is a place on Pattaya Klang, 200m east of beach road that gives better rates for GBP.

If you want to change a large (USD$4000+) amount of cash, maybe a trip BKK is worth your time. In BKK, Siam, Superrich and Vasu usually compete for the best rates. There is a website that is updated every 10 minutes for FX rates for all major players in BKK, but I'm not sure if forum rules permit me to post their URL here. Their URL starts with bankexchangerates.daytodaydata.n** (you'll have to guess at the **).

I check the rates on Beach and Soi Bua Khao. I have done some considerable cash exchanges. I like the blue one (RT or something like that) on Soi Bua Khao. It is next door to Siam Commercial Bank which is very convenient.

One on the beach road switched one of my good £20 for a maybe fake £20 they had received earlier. It was somewhere near Soi 13/2 on the corner with Beach Road.

The OP is not really interested in posted rates as he indicated that he would be changing quite a sum of cash. You need to compare apples to apples. I have been through this before and I found that YJ are not interested to give you a beneficial rate for large sums of cash and are (in this case) never as good as TT. They are not prepared to do anything but the posted rate.

Hope this helps.

Just a quick question for everybody.

I will be bring across sterling as I understand you can get a better rate in country.

Have been told to bring good condition notes but I was wondering which denominations are best?

Would rather bring £50 notes as these will take less space in the wallet but do they prefer £20 in the change kiosks?

50 Pound notes are perfect.

Rates are minimally better (0.1 Baht per Pound) and that only at the Bangkok specialists.

Mostly no difference at the Pattaya booths.

Do people actually walk around finding the best rate?

It's usually there or there abouts so what's the point?

A few baht, 10bt, 20bt makes no difference to me.

I find it crazy & gives new meaning to the saying 'cheap charlie'

If you're that hard up or bored either get a job or get an interest

Really, next ....

£50 are good

When you arriving?

I usually change £100 at airport for taxi, drinks, etc.

I remember once in about 2001 I changed £100 at LHR. The exchange rate was about 60 odd baht to the gbp.

Well, the cashier started counting the baht and as she kept counting I didn't stop her. I got just over 18,000!!!!!!

I walked away like a Cheshire Cat

I've no idea how the accounts looks that evening after she closed up.

Never happened again as I stopped changing money in UK as I got clued up

I'm not that lucky!
