Customs officials, border guards of Australia’s international airports to go on strike

A spokesperson for Australian Workers Union has warned that passengers arriving in the country or leaving it have to be prepared for hours-long delays in going through immigration and customs control

SYDNEY, August 3. /TASS/. Border guards and customs officers at the international airports of Australia will hold a strike on Monday to protest against the government’s policies regarding payment of wages.

A spokesperson for Australian Workers Union has warned that passengers arriving in the country or leaving it have to be prepared for hours-long delays in going through immigration and customs control.

According to the spokesperson, customs officers and border guards will go on strike in the country’s largest international airports, including in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. The strike will be held in several stages.

In, other news in order to alleviate public panic, the government stated that NO bbq's will have to be cancelled due to the strikers actions.

Air passengers warned to expect delays as customs and immigration staff strike

SYDNEY: -- Passengers at international airports across the country can expect delays due to a customs and immigration staff strike during peak flying periods on Monday.

Airports are asking Australians due to travel abroad to arrive as early as they can.

The four-hour protected industrial action will hit international airports in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin.

At Melbourne Airport, the action began at 7am and will continue until 11am. Further industrial action at the airport will continue from 9pm on Monday until 1am on Tuesday.

At Sydney Airport, action began at 6am and will continue until 10am. More strike action is scheduled from 8pm until midnight.

USA federal law allows federal employees to unionize but does not allow federal employees to strike.

When federal traffic controllers announced a "sick out," President Reagan warned they faced dismissal. For those air controllers that stayed home, Reagan simply and legally fired them. It took about two years to replace all the fired employees.

The union for Australian Public Servants is the CPSU, not something called The Australian Workers Union.

Border "Guards" are not involved, it's the newly renamed Border Protection Service, the combined Customs and Immigration services.

This Russian propaganda site is not very concerned with accuracy when trying to throw crap at western democratic societies.

If you take time to read the SMH site in the second news bulletin you might get a better idea of the facts of the matter.

The Abbott government, having falsely declared Australia to be in deep deficit thanks to the previous government, is trying to prove their financial competence by again delving into the pockets of those they regard to be easy targets.

They're trying to remove such things as shift allowances and overtime from workers who are required to spend large parts of their lives (nights, weekends, public holidays, etc.) processing passenger arrivals. Workers could lose as much as $8,000 from their current entitlements.

Without these allowances fewer workers will work these crap hours, service standards will erode and the same people here throwing ill-informed rubbish at these workers will have something else to whinge about.

Defined benefit super schemes for public servants were phased out over 20 years ago. the current disputes are over shift and roster loadings, something that 9-5 office workers and employers have long supported because they don't have to work weekends, afternoon and night shifts.
