Pridiyathorn calls for revocation of off-budget funding to ThaiHealth and Thai PBS

BANGKOK: -- The Constitution Drafting Committee was told by Deputy Prime Minister M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula to modify the draft Constitution in a way that the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), Thai PBS and Sports Development Fund will in the future receive funding from fiscal budget instead of directly from sin tax or earmarked tax.

DPM expresses condolences for flood disaster in Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR – 4 August 2015 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Foreign Affairs expressed his condolences for flood disaster in Myanmar at the ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meetings.


The Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Foreign Affairs Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn has expressed his sympathy for the current flood disaster in Myanmar to the Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, at the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The flood disaster currently covers four areas in Myanmar including the Chin State, Rakhine State, Magway Region, and Sagaing Region. Other areas have also been affected, due to continued heavy rains since mid May 2015, under the influence of the Komen Storm from the Bay of Bengal.

People affected from this disaster range between 67,000 - 110,000, while 21 fatalities have been confirmed by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of 30 July 2015.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon has reported that no Thai nationals are affected from this incident, and assured that the embassy will continue to monitor the situation closely.

PRD chief invites public to join Bike for MOM

BANGKOK, 4 August 2015 (NNT) – The Director-General of the Public Relations Department (PRD) is calling the general public to attend the Bike for MOM event on 16 August 2015 to express their gratitude and loyalty to the Queen, and to take part in the Guinness Book record breaking event.


The PRD Director-General Apinan Juntarungsri revealed that the PRD has invited staff from the Guinness World Records to capture the historic picture of the Thai public's loyalty and gratefulness towards Her Majesty the Queen and the monarchy, in the Bike for MOM event that is set to commence on 16 August 2015.

Guinness World Records will scan bar codes on tags placed on participants' bicycles riding over 4 kilometers. The record breaking attempt location in Bangkok will be at the rest point of the Army Stadium in Bangkok, and at other designated locations in other provinces.

The PRD Director-General has said that the rehearsal of the recording procedures has been carried out on 2 August 2015 with some part of the process needs to be refined.

He also invited the general public to attend the event to express their gratefulness and loyalty to the Queen, and to be a part of the historic world record attempt altogether.

Thailand arrests five for trafficking women into sex slavery in China

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand has arrested five people suspected of trafficking Thai women into sex slavery in China and believed to be part of a ring that has also trafficked women into Malaysia and Singapore, Thai police said on Tuesday.

Impact Arena to host Chinese product exposition

BANGKOK, 4 July 2015 (NNT) - The Convention and Exhibition Bureau in cooperation with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce will hold a Chinese product exhibition between September 23 and 25 at Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani.


The exhibition will feature products from over 400 Chinese companies such as electrical appliances, leather apparel, shoes, industrial machinery, automobile parts, construction materials and tools. The exhibition will also feature a seminar on conducting online commerce in the Asean market.

China has become Thailand’s largest trade partner, with imports from China increasing every year.

Water conservation exhibition held in Chiang Mai Province to showcase His Majesty the King’s works

BANGKOK, 4 August 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is holding an exhibition to showcase His Majesty the King’s water conservation initiatives.


Agriculture Minister Petipong Pungbun Na Ayudhya said His Majesty throughout his life has placed great emphasis on improving the country’s water management and conservation methods and has passed on his Royal Project’s innovations to local communities. This has resulted in effective water management for agriculture and relief for drought affected regions in the country.

The exhibition features an education center on His Majesty’s work pertaining to water management and conservation, an academic forum, showcasing of various crafts, and an education center for agricultural practices. The exhibition also features booths selling products from local farmers.

The exhibition is being held at The Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai Province from August 1 to August 15.

Israeli arrested after West Bank arson that killed toddler
