Why do people eat papaya salad when it smells like a toilet?

Its a simple question. Does anyone know the answer?

I returned home the other day and I smelt a foul urine odour in the house. It was repulsive. Afterwards I did a random breath test (RBT) and thought the persons breath smelt like a toilet similar to what you might experience on the Egypt / Isreal border crossing.

Thanks for your opinion on this important matter

Why do people eat cheese when it smells like a toilet.

Why do people eat durian when it smells like a toilet.

Why do people drink 7 beer when they smell like a toilet afterwards

You may solve many questions at once.

First off I have been to several Egypt/Israel border crossings over the years and actually lived in Israel for 3 years and I don't recall the toilets at the crossings smelling like papaya salad. I suspect your toilet needs a good cleaning.

It doesn't smell that way when I make it. Perhaps you're doing it wrong?

So, you actually make your owm som tam? lao or thai style?

Thai style. I'm not sure what's so remarkable about that, though.

Good for you, but the thai style also explains why it doesn't have a foul odor.

Because som tam has fermented fish called "parah" in it. That's what gives that smell.

However it's a difference of opinion. Some people love durian, some hate it. Some people love indian food, some can't stand the smell of it, saying its pungent and sticks to the walls. Same with som tam (papaya salad).

You might think it smells a bit, so what.

What is the point of your post. Are you trying to be funny, maybe educate people? You come across as someone who is rude. I predict you won't last long here with that kind of attitude.

Says Mr 49 posts...

There is life in Thailand outside of Thai visa, Mr 2000+ posts.....

Acquired taste? Fermented fish sauce, Used for saltiness and umami.

As with many Thai dishes, the balance of tastes (a few, many, all) can be the real key.

If you've ever seen a fish sauce fermentation facility in person you'd be overwhelmed by the smell.

As they say, there is a fine line between fermentation and rot.

I'm not a fan of the real thing (Pla Ra), preferring the more domesticated versions.

Why do people eat at MacDonalds when it tastes like cardboard?

DIfferent strokes.

Is called taste buds

Influence from a young age even before we had a decision making brain

That's why adult still crave a big Mac... Especially when hungover, stressed out thinking irrationality....
