Extending 90 day Non-Imm"O" visa in Thailand

Recommended Posts

Im married to a Thai Lady and we come over to Thailand once or twice a year from Switzerland. I normally geta Non-Imm "O" visa as her husband (not retirement - though I am retired) which is restricted to 90 days on issue. She is fully registered in her new Name in both Switzerland and Thailand.

We live out at Nangrong (nr Buriram). I understand that to extend the visa - which would be a multi-entry - I must do this at an Immigration Office. The closest one would be Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat).

Can someone tell me:

- the address and telephone number of the Office

- what documenbts they would wish to see

- how long they can extend it for

- the cost

- how Long it takes to extend it? 30 minutes, 3 days, 3 weeks?????

Thanks for your help

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 day of your 90 day entry from the non-o visa. You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht income. There is a long list of the documents required I can post if you want to apply for this extension. On the date you apply for this extension you will get a under consideration stamp with a 30 day report back date. On that date you will get the one year extension stamp.

You can also apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife. She would need to go with you when you apply. You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of you wife's house book registry and ID card. They will do this extension while you wait.

The assigned immigration office for Buriram province is the Kap Choeng office in Surin. Map and contact info is here. Address and Google Map location of immigration offices

Thankyou to you both (Ubonjoe and Nowretired)......the reaspn for asking is to enable me to stay a little longer....not necessarily another year as I do not normally keep THB400k in my Thai bank account..... However, it could be a consideration - so it would indeed be useful if you could post me the list iof documents required so I can check I have them all before I leave Switzerland.

Our Basic home is in Switzerland (my wife's Family lives near Nanrong) and have always taken the "married to a Thai" visa to avoid the hassle of getting proof of income etc or Holding too much Money in TH......which you need for a retirement visa. However if I go the route of a year's eytension and the requiremts are similar, then perhaps I take the retirement visa in future...... Is there any Advantage in having one or the other??

12 Months Extension based on marriage: 400,000 baht in the bank or 40,000 Baht monthly income.

12 Months Extension based on retirement: 800,000 in the bank or 65,000 Baht monthly income or a combination of both.

In both instances do either have to be seasoned ?

I have always been confused by this,or is the seasoning for yearly extension based solely on marriage ?

If you only need short period of time the 60 day extension might be the best option. No financial proof is needed.

You could also go to Savannakhet Laos (across the river from Mukdahan) and get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage with no financial proof. It would give you unlimited 90 day entries for a year.

For the one year extension the 400k baht must be in the bank in your name only for 2 months.

You will need copies of the following.

You will need your marriage certificate plus copies. A updated Kor Ror 2 marriage registry from an Amphoe.

Copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.

A map to where you are living from the nearest main road or street.

Photos of you and your wife in and around the house. One will need to show you with the house number showing.

You will also need copies of your passport pages.

There may be a few more things the local immigration office may want.

Marriage 2 months.

Retirement 2 months 1st time and 3 months thereafter.

And for being the father of a Thai child 400,000 baht.

Does this need to be seasoned also ?

The law makes no mention of that.

(5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must maintain an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month throughout the year or must have deposited funds of no less than Baht 400,000 to cover expenses for one year.

UbonJoe - you mentioned the above requirement for the Extension - we were married in Switzerland - and I have a Thai Translation of the certificate - so is the Kor Ror 2 marriage registry from Amphoe also necessary? (what exactly is that)?)

You will need a Kor Ror 22 foreign marriage registry in order to apply for an extension of stay immigration, You have to register your marriage at an Amphoe to get it.

You will need your marriage certificate certified by the Swiss embassy or a self certification done by doing an affidavit stating it is true and correct. Then it and your marriage certificate will need to be translated to Thai and the translation will need to be certified by the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

After you have those you can register your marriage and be given a Kor Ror 22. The will also update your wife's house book and if needed her ID card.

Question, are you sure you have to go to Korat Immigration ? I think as you are in Buriram (Nang Rong) you fall under Kap Choeng, as I know some one and he lives in Nong Khi (which is close to Nang rong) and he reports to Kap Choeng Immigration.

post-157194-0-17787200-1338864449_thumb. Kap Choeng Immigration has reopened as a full service immigration office for Surin and Buriram Provinces.

KCI is hand processing all paper work as they wait on TOT. Their new phone number when activated will be

044559127-8, hopefully today.KCI is processing marriage and retirement extensions, Tourist visa extensions, re entry permit etc. KCI is also doing 90 day reports. They DO NOT accept reports by mail. If you desire you can still do your

90 day report at the Chong Chom border crossing. If you need confirmation on this you may call Korat Immigration at

04492903-4. If you need further information fell free to PM me.

Looks like someone took the number down incorrectly - a "1" was missing.
