PATTAYA: -- A family of 3 were on their way to see relatives to celebrate Mother’s Day on Wednesday Morning but all lost their lives as their car collided head-on with a truck in East Pattaya.

Police and rescue workers attended the scene of the crash in Soi Chayapornviti close to the Water Treatment Plant in East Pattaya, just before 9am. A BMW car had collided head on with a truck which was on its way to Kow Mai Gaew in North Pattaya where it was due to collect sand, according to its driver, Khun Kwumuang aged 50, who was not injured.

The BMW was travelling in the opposite direction and attempted to overtake a slower-moving vehicle but its driver, Khun Sermsuk aged 42, failed to see the oncoming truck and collided with the larger vehicle head-on.

did not see the truck ????????? can you see how big that truck is ???????????

How does anyone know he failed to see the truck? The poor bugger and his family are all dead and cannot speak up.

Stupid reporting once again.

If it were a farang, he would most likely have had a sudden heart attack!

RIP

My Mrs was talking to me of this last night as it happened quite close to where we live.

An impatient overtaking manoeuvre either on a bend or before the brow of a hill seems likely. I travel on this stretch, heading for HWY 331 and you have to hold back due to bends and hills. This is rather sad as they were visiting the mother and had only come from Pong which isn't very far. A whole family wiped out due to impatience.

The fact the car is buried into the front of the truck is a clear indicator that the possibility of him not seeing truck are in the high percentile.

They overtake assuming the on coming will pull over. Very sad indeed they just have no respect with other road users. I drive many times from Khon Kaen to Pattaya with my wife and see so much stupidity it frytens me a lot I am so carefull.

Impatience, nothing else. They overtake at every opportunity and they can't judge the distance needed for it. Many survive just by pure luck and because everyone else tries to avoid them. BMW might give the extra push to try something that will not work.. Have plenty of footage on my dash cam of these situations.

here's a possible scenario... he sees the truck coming but decide he can gun the bimmer and make it

just in time.... these thing happened way to often, miscalculating distance and abilities to make

correct driving decisions.....

I know that road well.

There is a hill that local drivers enjoy overtaking on, particularly just before the top, not quite fully appreciating that they can't see what is coming from the other side.

Also, there are a number of turnings for heavy vehicles.

Finally, this long section which is not too built-up encourages drivers to put their foot down and overtake.

Far too many drivers -obviously inexperienced - just will not overtake, or take around 10 seconds to summon up the courage, to overtake a truck or other slow moving vehicle on a straight piece of road with no traffic coming from the opposite direction. This causes tailbacks, frustration, and reckless driving of other drivers in the queue who will try and overtake many vehicles at one time.

Only yesterday I cursed 3 Thai drivers in the space of 5 minutes, who were still stationary in pole position at green traffic lights after 6 seconds!

Never mind 80baht lottery tickets, and drinking within 300 metres of educational establishments. The government need to prioritise righting ALL the wrongs of Thai driving, and significantly reduce the death and accident toll.

Yes it's very sad and completely unnecessary.

Yes he must have gunned it since the car is buried under the truck so very likely on a blind spot and he thought that Buddha will protect him and he wiped out his family in the process.

RIP for the child and mother.

Hope the truck driver is free to go.

So the truck driver has been absolved of any blame by ThaiVisa members, if the car driver had been a Farang it would have been a totally different story.

The Truck driver being Thai would have been to blame, he must have been speeding, on yaba, drunk, you know how crazy the Thai truck drivers are ... etc etc

It would have been twisted to lay the blame on a Thai, any Thai, cos Farangs don't have accidents in their own countries with other Farangs, they never drive drunk, they never exceed the speed limits etc etc, yeah right.........

Exactly when will they ever learn, impatience, you experience it everytime you drive on Thai Roads, they drive flat out into intersections hoping to pass before they have to avoid the obstacle in front , they come up behind you and push, they wont wait for you passing the truck in front so they try to go inside and beat you.

Tragic loss and very sad, when will this stupid government mount a road education TV plan as well as get more traffic police on the road and more speed cameras.

Maniac driving considered the norm is not good enough maybe take a miracle to do something about.

wow! you cursed only 3 drivers?!?

it's long time since I started to count how many drivers I praise each day... it's much easier to keep the count.

I get driving lessons from my TW every time we go out in the car. She tut-tuts away at why I am slowing/speeding up on approaching another vehicle. She hasn't the use of the 3 mirrors ( + the little ones stuck to the outside ones ) like I do. You have to think for Thai drivers as they do none of it themselves . As posted above, Good job he drove into a truck and not another family in a Beemer coming the other way. Pity he didn't just take his own life , one less on the road.

The problem is the way Thai drivers overtake be it in a car or on a bike.

They tailgate the car in front then just pull out, it gives no time to react if there is a vehicle coming the other way.

In the UK we are taught to hang back from the vehicle in front then ease out to check the way ahead is clear of oncoming traffic, giving plenty of time to pull back if it is not.

The only answer (which will never happen) is to introduce proper instruction and driving tests. I took my test here and spent 2 minutes in the car in a car park. One teacher who took his test at the same time nearly knocked us all over when he mounted the kerb trying to park, then could not manoeuver his car off the kerb again, even the Thais were giggling discreetly behind their hands, he left with a Driving License!

Why should we blame the truck driver? The guy try to overtake in a wrong place and paid dearly for that.

The BMW was travelling in the opposite direction and attempted to overtake a slower-moving vehicle but its driver, Khun Sermsuk aged 42, failed to see the oncoming truck and collided with the larger vehicle head-on.
