KUALA LUMPUR: -- The debris found near the Maldives might be brought back to Malaysia to be investigated and determined if it came from Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370, The Star Online reported, citing Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lay.

The minister said a Malaysian team was already in the Maldives and working very closely with the local authorities to verify the debris.

The parts may be brought to Malaysia if a further verification process is needed, he said.

“Let’s wait for the details of the verification and analysis to be carried out by the experts,” he said.

He added that a Malaysian team had also been sent to Reunion Island where a flaperon belonging flight MH370 was found.

The Maldives stuff is apparently from a barge that capsized not long ago. It was carrying 4,000 (prefabricated) wall panels and capsized in early February. The captain of the barge says he recognizes the debris as being from the cargo he had been hauling.

Oceanographers are also stating that if the flaperon found on Reunion Island is from MH370 then it would be almost impossible for any debris from the pane to turn up in the Maldives due to the different wind and currents.
