I would and I did. It can be a problem if at different times you use them for ID at the same place eg bank.I just prefer to avoid the possibility of any hassel.

Although your licence was'nt expired yet, did you still get a fresh 5 year extesion? If so, i might as well renew mine, since the passport also is valid for 5 years.

No, just a replacement. Remember if you renew your 5-year licence the day after it runs out (the day after your birthday) you get 6-years less a day.

I recently got a new 5 year license and asked about how to update when I get my new passport later this month. They said just bring in copies of the old and new ones and they will update and reissue. Was told no testing, medical, etc. since just changing passport number and address remains the same. I prefer to have all aligned for the next five years as you can use the DL for ID in lieu of a passport at the bank and some other places. Always concerning if something bad happens and documents are incorrect, expired, etc. as it opens the door for problems which could otherwise be avoided.

What about if you are a dual national and used one passport for your licence application but are now living in Thailand on another nationality. I have previously switched my nationality as displayed on my Thai driver's licence many times when renewing my driver's licence but this was an easy process because I was in the process of renewing anyway. Now I have my current passport number from one nationality on my 5-year licence, but since last year I am living in Thailand with a visa issued in another passport. I suppose the procedure would probably be the same - except that the first 2 digits will change (for example, 08 means Australia while 40 means Switzerland).

Still, I don't think I'm going to bother making the change now as it will probably just complicate things.

Getting a Yellow House Book (tabien baan) may be another way to go. When I went to get my driver license for the first time, two months ago, I had a bunch of identification papers in a clear plastic bag, including passport. The woman at the counter practically jumped across the counter and said "Yellow Book!" It was so easy for her to process my first driver license with that. She only wanted to see that book plus my US driver license, and not my passport. I was in and out in 15 minutes. The ID Number on my driver license is my 13-digit national ID number from the Yellow Book. This number will not change, even if you move and were to get a new Yellow Book at your new address.

How do you get a yellow house book?
