Chang Classic tastes like bat urine. sick.gif

I bow to your superior knowledge, never having drunk bat urine myself!

Funny, when I posted that I thought to myself that there would undoubtedly be some lunkhead who would post something like, "HAR HAR HAR, how do you know what bat urine tastes like, HAR HAR HAR", all the while slapping his meaty thigh and congratulating himself on his rapier-like wit. And right on cue....

Credit where it's due, you started it.

When ASEAN comes, people will go for Beerlao, Myanmar beer and then Cambodian beer.

We'll all be dead before ASEAN comes.

ASEAN was formed in 1967.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_Southeast_Asian_Nations

For those unaware (I wasn't), DanceAllNight was referring to the AEC portion of ASEAN... which is supposed to be fully implemented over the next two years, but will not be fully implemented before, as said, we are all dead. wink.png

Enough about Chang and other rubbish.

Let's talk about beer.

Let's talk about beer that is readily available in Thailand. wink.png

Since I do not consider mass produced standardized tasteless low alcohol liquids to be "beer", it will be a short conversation. tongue.png

Seriously.

Talking about beer in Thailand, is like talking about papaya, mango, som tam, fresh fish etc in Belgium - whats the point?

I used to love drinking the old 6.4 Chang Classic

I took it in stride when they lowered the alcohol content and later took to smaller big bottles.

But it has been a while now since I truly enjoyed my evening Classic.

Now it's definitely over with this this "new" Chang.

I'll finish the couple cases I have and switch to another beer.

I wonder if they are looking greedily at the Heineken price tag and thinking they can edge towards it if they make it as similar as possible.

Thai quality at farang prices is a recipe for disaster.

anybody else here hates the taste of Heineken as I do?

It's a sad day for this long time drinker of Chang.

I can't say I like the "new" taste at all.

Not what beer do I turn to . . . . any ideas?

I drink Red horse when i can find it, still 6% and still 640ML... tastes, like Thai beer. getting very hard to find.

I buy my RH at Foodland. Now if they only had BL. Chang can can go to H@#$ just another greedy local firm.

It's somwhat better in cans or on draft, in which case it at least lacks the skunkiness.

Even fresh I think it tastes too bitter

Is the "new" Chang out yet? My local Mom n Pop store only has the regular old classic. The nearest 7-11 only has Leo, Singha & Heineken. Are they waiting for all old stock to be drunk before releasing the new "wonder beer"? Not been to Makro or Tesco recently...

Classic case of "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

And surely a case of throwing the baby out with the Chang water.

The original Chang was a great beer, having enough character to stand up to the devilishly spicy food of Isaan

ASEAN WHO?

After 1 bottle of Chang Classic (6.4%) nobody cared about the taste.

And most of us could gag one bottle of anything down!

I remember a little beerbar near bottom of Soi 8. Not a regular for me.

Sat down and started lady-drink chatting one of the girls while drinking the then 6.4 Classic.

That bar seemed to have it that the girl should lady-drink whatever the customer drank.

So the girl started drinking Classic in unison with me.

After a couple I got concerned about her sobriety state and suggested that she switches to SanMig Light, for instance, or anything else light she fancied.

"Light" means "Low Calorie" not "Low Alcohol".

In the case of San Mig light, definitely - it's still 5%

Singha light is something like 3.5%, though.

Light beer can also refer to reduced alcohol content. They normally go together

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_beer

Chang light for instance was 4.2%, compared to 5% export and 5.8% classic.

Awesome nearly 6 pages on the great Chang debate. Most people know the majority, if not all, Thai beer is shit house. Leo is OK. Best beer in the region hands down is Beer Lao. Red Horse is a Phillo's special and a heady drop. This debate seems to be mostly about alcohol content and price though really nothing to do with the quality of the beer. As for those that recommend Cheers or Archa... what the <deleted>??? If some of you sops are so concerned about price and percentage of piss why not just go native and start smashing the lao kao into you. Problem solved. Cheers. thumbsup.gif
