Phuket Governor to head BCCT panel event: 'Phuket's Tourism Future'

PHUKET: -- The British Chamber of Commerce of Thailand (BCCT) returns to Phuket next week to continue its outstanding series of presentation business dinners with a focus on “Phuket’s Tourism Future – Public and Private Sector Plans”.

The special event, held in collaboration with Netherlands, French and German chambers of commerce, will be held at the Amari Phuket resort in Patong on September 3.

Heading the panel of guest speakers will be Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong, joined by Anoma Vongyai, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office.

Governor Nisit, who served as Vice Governor of Chonburi province in 2009, also holds BA in political science and governance (Honours, first gold medal) from Chulalongkorn University and a master’s of science administration (Honours, excellence).

He has received several awards in recognition of his contribution to the development of tourism. In 2013. he was Executive Director of the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA).

Phuket TAT Director Ms Anoma has forged a lasting career in tourism. After completing her Bachelor of Arts at the Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, she graduated with a master’s degree in tourism from the James Cook University in North Queensland, Australia, in 2004.

Ms Anoma, a Phuket native, has extensive experience specifically in Phuket’s tourism industry, having served as Assistant Director of the TAT Phuket office from 2003 to 2009. From there served as Assistant Director of the TAT Tokyo Office from 2009-2013, then spent a year as the Assistant Director of the International Marketing Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas office in 2013-2014.

Ms Anoma took up the post as TAT Phuket Director in March 2014.

Rounding out the panel on September 3 will be SKAL Thailand President Dale Lawrence. Mr Lawrence, a UK citizen, is a journalist, broadcaster and tourism industry communications consultant based in Bangkok.

He has lived and worked in Asia since 1994 and his previous roles include Director of Corporate Communications for PATA; Media Advisor to the First Prime Minister of Cambodia HRH Norodom Ranariddh, and International PR Director for a world-wide promotional campaign on behalf of the China External Trade Development Council in Taiwan.

Mr Lawrence began his career as a news and sports reporter on a daily newspaper in the famous city of Bath in the United Kingdom. He also writes on travel, tourism and aviation issues for travel and lifestyle publications and is Editor of the quarterly business magazine published by the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand.

Grenville Fordham of Phuket’s own IMAGE asia will be the moderator at the event.
