Prayuth Fumes at Politicians Critical of Charter

By Khaosod Eng.

BANGKOK — Junta chairman and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said politicians have no right to criticize the new constitution being drafted under the junta’s oversight.

The retired general today lashed out at politicians from rival factions who have urged his appointed National Reform Council to reject the new charter when it goes to a vote early next month – a move that could torpedo the junta’s promise of a smooth transition to the next election.

“They have no right to suggest that to anyone. Do they have the right?” Prayuth told reporters yesterday. “Why do the media give a platform to these people?”

Several top politicians from rival factions have suggested that the council reject the draft, citing numerous defects that they believe would hamstring elected administrations in the future.

Their main grievance is a clause creating a military-stacked committee with the authority to unilaterally intervene and take any action in the event future governments are unable to exercise their power due to “chaos.”

Any action taken by this “Committee of Reform Strategy and National Reconciliation” would be considered administratively and legislatively binding, according to how it’s written.

The new charter also permits a non-MP to be appointed prime minister and abolishes direct election to the Senate. In the new constitution, 77 out of the 200 senators would be indirectly elected from a pool of chosen candidates, and the rest appointed by panels of “experts.”

What is the man's problem, for God's sake? His fellow Thai citizens have every right to like or criticise the charter. Why doesn't he pack up and leave if he has such a downer on his own people? What makes him so damn special?

300 000 or so servicemen (many not particularly enthusiastic) who he expects to chorus "How high sir" when he shouts "Jump".

So he wants to ban politics?

Well yes, after all he has got the "good people", so their is no need for politics. Just get on with your subsistence sufficiency economy, like the good little serfs he thinks you are .

But they are not. And boy is that going to come as a surprise one day!

I guess the attitude adjustment didn't help after all... 'cause the nasty nasty politician kids of each party readjust their attitudes into their own evil, violent natured, nasty nasty bad attitudes-selves again.....

I guess he is angry his happiness to the people is not working.

Wonder if he realises that when people are stopped from criticizing it doesnt mean they are happy. It just means they live in fear, until they get the chance to vote. Then he will really throw his toys out of the pram.

Even the Rt Hon Abhisit has criticized the "charter", so it must indeed be awful.

I fear Prayut is getting more delusional by the month. By the end of this year I expect him to declare "I am more popular than the Beatles".

When is a coup d'etat *not* a coup d'etat? Why, of course --- when it's authorized in the Charter. A coup by any other name is still a -- er, impeachment?

After all these decades of unauthorized coup d'etats, why, with a stroke of the pen, they'll now be authorized. Amazing.

Have a feeling that its gonna end very very bad with this guy in charge ...

Yup, he is losing his cool (assuming he ever had any) and is obviously totally unfit for the job.

He is an old military man and is used to everything he utters being done exactly as he said it. He is NOT used to anyone questioning him back, or worse, telling him NO.

What makes him special is that his IQ is not higher than the one of a 13 year old girl......

A lifetime of military mannerisms are hard to shed. He thinks the people are his troops. Maybe another trip into the mountains is warranted and a new set of tablets brought down. He wants us to believe that the present ones are cast in stone. The present ones seem to be a non starter with anyone possessing a little intellect. He can try to control the local media but social media has a life of its own.

I have a feeling he is very used to leading from the rear and losing his rag when everyone doesn't move on his order.

The guy is a buffoon of the highest order. He claims foreigners now understand the issues whilst his own countrymen are raising questions.

Let the Thai People decide, it's thier country.

Believe it or not they are not stupid.

Set up village meteeting and WITH OUT THE PRESS present.

Answer questions the people have about the new document.

The document will not please everyone, some won't like it, some will.

The decision is up to the Thai People!

"They have no right to suggest that to anyone, Do they have that right?"

Errmm Yu'p they most certainly do have that right.

"Why do the media give a platform to these people"

Coz that's their job, to ask questions and report issues to the people.

So now what happens If his appointed National Reform Council reject the draft? Not going to happen but would be interesting.

Then if the people reject the constitution, Well the big fella will have no choice to restore peace and happiness to the people for another few years.

Don't ya love it when a plan comes together.

The usual few defenders are deafeningly quiet, I'm just hearing cricketswhistling.gif

Yes I agree with you they are not stupid but when their liberties and freedoms are taken away the decision is taken away from them and those who rule try and decide for them, just like what is happening now.

And yet you will still have the junta sycophants on here defending him and how much Thailand has improved since he took over, stating that the killings and the bombings have stopped.......... oh wait a minute..cancel my last.

What reforms have started and been completed by the way?

The economy ?

The internal Infrastructures one?

The Public/Private Health sector?

The Police?

The Judiciary?

Education?

Public Roads and Highways?

Probably a lot more could be added, I will leave that up to other like minded people. I actually believed that Prayuth was the right guy to begin with, however, he's let power go to his head, opens his mouth without thinking, believes that he is "He who must be obeyed", he could have done a lot of positive things, 15 months and still nothing regarding reconciliation, which should have been the number one priority, not tourism, without a united country, you're always going to struggle with any basic reforms, he's too quick tempered, isn't a man of the people, lacks poor man management skills, spending a lifetime in an autocratic system, trying to preach about democracies, is laughable. His outburst against the media, and those who have opinions worth listening to, very quickly put me off this man being the "new messiah" he's far from it, he should have stuck to his guns and promises, and held elections in the latter part of this year, he has NO inkling to do so, as he will then become a nobody with zero power, just a voice that can be told to shut up. He has drunk from the power and absolute power cup, and lapped it up so much, he can't stop.

Still it's not all cloudy and gray, lottery tickets have so far remained at 80 baht, although I suspect many rural areas its crept back up again, there's no deck chairs allowed on Phuket beaches, or food vendors, taxi drivers have toed the line (sort of) and there's billions of Chinese tourists arriving weekly!!

One of the main issues the junta lovers had with the previous government is that they tried to "sneak" an amnesty bill through parliament.

And here we have their dear leader wanting to write the legality of coups into the constitution!

Amazing, indeed...coffee1.gif

Let's make it CLEAR

He should not get angry because he knows it's a win/win

Vote AGAINST charter keep the Army

Vote FOR the charter keep the Army (but behind the scenes in a democracy 'Thai Style')

neither vote is FOR democracy it's Hobson's Choice
