ANGTHONG: -- A 32-year-old man was captured after allegedly assaulting and attempting to rape an 81-year-old woman at her home in Angthong's Wiset Chai Chan district yesterday.

The suspect, a distant relative of the victim, allegedly broke into the victim's home at about 3.30am and, after she saw him, she screamed for help but he overpowered her and demanded sex, the victim told police.

She resisted and hit him in stomach so he hit her back, she alleged.

He was about to stab her with a knife when a neighbour, who heard her screams, came to her rescue, she alleged, adding that the suspect ran off.

Wiset Chai Chan Police Station superintendant Colonel Peerapan Chanthien said that about 5am member of the public captured the suspect under a tree not far from the victim's house and took him to police.

The man has maintained is innocence, claiming he had been drinking and taking drug the night before so he was hiding.

Looks like he accidentally fell over whilst getting in the back of the truck as well. Diddums.

Maybe he didn't look at the street carefully when walking with the police. Tragic....I heard such people aren't very welcome from the "normal" criminals in jail.

Only in Thailand!

No. It's just that farang are blind to such things in farang land and think bad things only happen in Thailand. Some young men in the west seem to be drawn to the elderly. Then when they get older they come to Thailand and reverse course.

Based on the attack, he is mentally ill, and it would be important to know how many other similar attacks he may have committed in the past. Being attracted to other adults of any age is technically not mental illness, however distasteful it may seem. However, forced violent sex against any adult or child, regardless of age, is true psychopathy. Assuming this was not his first such attack, he should have been previously medicated, monitored or in a secure hospital. A short sentence in prison would only make his psychopathy worse, that is why his history and personality should be analysed by doctors, because it may be safer for him to be in secure hospital permanently for life. The law will just jail somebody for a certain time and then put them back on the street, but if they are mentally ill, they need medical treatment and in the case of psychopathy they need monitoring for life.
